What have you done to your MSP today?

Afraid to run 10psi? My car spikes 10 or more frequently and I ain't skeered. Stock block and LSD too!

Looks like this was the issue. The gap on the plugs I pulled last night was close to the .044 they come gapped lol DOH! Swapped in new plugs gapped to .030 and the car is running like a beast with these cooler temps down here.

Oh well, should have started there in the first place but oh well, The ignition system was going to need replacing soon anyways I'm sure.

Another funny thing, Now that I sorted this out I'm no longer getting the boost loss I was getting before. The boost goes to 7 and stays there the whole time I'm on it.

Man I said that after your first post about the misfire! That's exactly what I did, forgot to set the gap, then I found out the plugs without the '-11' suffix aren't gapped as wide for turbo cars. My car is also running much better the past couple days that it has cooled off.

its not the open loop that kills these cars is in what way or lack of how it goes into open loop. You could technically boost 12psi in closed loop on these cars if you let it.

Yea I agree that our ECU really sucks the big one when it comes to switching from closed loop to open loop. I never used the Flyin Miata 02 clamp, but I've been told it works wonderfully. However, the ultimate solution still remains the same. If you want to eliminate any chance of the factory ECU screwing with your fuel / timing then you must remove it from the equation. Either full standalone, or you can run it in parallel (my preference) with the stock ECU so full control for fuel / timing goes to the EMS and everything else is still controlled by the ECU.

lol im glad I never had a stock block boosted protege. Sounds like everybody is scared to even drive there car.

Not going to lie, with over 100K on her, that was a good portion of the reason i traded it in. I felt like I was relying on a time bomb. Granted, now I have 2 vehicles so I would care a lot less... but you're pretty much spot on.

Alright i'm kinda freaking out a little. Last week I noticed after parking my car the coolant was bubbling a little in the overflow tank. I thought it was odd considering the car hasn't been overheating at all, the temp gauge doesn't ever get above halfway. So I just bought a new Rad cap, haven't installed it yet i'm waiting for the car to cool, however when I give it more gas, more bubbles go into the overflow tank. It has lost a little coolant since I flushed it several months ago, but not much. The coolant doesn't look discolored but i'm worried the head gasket may be leaking and that's why i'm getting bubbles in the coolant, exhaust gas. If the gasket is bad then it must not be completely blown because the car runs fine and the coolant and oil don't seem to be mixing. I have noticed a slight burning smell after parking the car lately, sometimes it smells a little like coolant, sometimes it smells like oil. Car has 113k on it, and I really hope the Rad cap fixes it.

Not me, i'm gonna enjoy it as much as I want and not be a pussy. If it blows then I can go forged or sell it and buy something that won't blow.

Well I've already replaced just about every other part on my car, so I guess the motor is all that is left. Oh and the LSD. Though since I've been running on the stock tune since last January when I gave up on my AEM F/IC, I'd say there is no way I could blow up my motor at this point. Anytime I hit boost, my wideband flashes 10.0 like "wtf are you doing bro?" and the car actually goes slower than when I just cruise.

I kinda laugh every time I gun it in first gear, then hit boost in 2nd and may as well let off so I don't waste any more gas.

I'm gunna cross my fingurs and hope it just needs an alignment, have had the car for only 2 months and have had more problems with this thing than anyother car I've had, and i have a loan out on it, jokes on me lol

it is normal to loose a little coolant, seeing as the coolant cools the the turbo it just comes with the territory. Changing the cap is a good plan anyway. The car smelling like coolant is normal, I told my fiance that was "eau de MSP". Oil is somewhat concerning, but you're probably overreacting.

So seemingly a bit of the face on one of my rotors is contacting the caliper (I think just on sharp turns). What's up with that? How dat work mang!?

Anyway, I'm not sure what to do about it. Hub? Lug bolts? Bearing (again)?

Trust me, I feel your pain. I'm wasn't joking when I said that I've replaced almost every part on the car. I bought it just over 3 years ago and still owe about $3k. If you want me to list all the parts that were junk when I pulled them off, send me a PM LOL.

blown head gasket

Change your plugs, bad plugs will cause that. Trust me I know.

This dyno was with bad plugs and new plugs.

Wow, the only thing you changed was the plugs? The plugs probably have less than 20k on them but since they're cheap I suppose it couldn't hurt. Thanks.

yes, along with a reset of the ECU. Br glad you got 20k out of them... I have to change mine like every 3-4 months it seems because they get fouled up due to the car running so damn rich.

Lol well like I said, I've been running this way for the better part of a year now so I'm sure they were probably fouled a long time ago.
