What have you done to your MSP today?

Should be putting new front brakes in today. I didn't really want to spend more money on stock brakes but I don't have the money for the speed 6 stuff I need and I can't put it off any longer.

When I changed out my stock MM for stiffer once, it gave a little more pep to the throttle response. Do you have all 4 or just the front?

I have all 4 but so far only the front medieval and the passenger side AWR are installed. The car certainly has much improved throttle response and all around is smoother. Trans mount and rear should get installed this week whenever i have time. I have wed-fri off work but i want to go to SXSW shows as well.

Fixed my pre turbo exhaust leak causing my overboost. Now holding 8psi nice and steady.
Good smooth idle, no more misfire, no more hesitation under boost. Since buying this car 3 weeks ago, today is the first day I got to drive it like intended.
Put a pretty big smile on my face.

all i did to mount my cxracing was drill out the holes in the bracket bigger so the bolts fit, then mounted it from the underside on the two 10mm bolts that hold the bumper on. you still have the side bolts and top bolts.
I had to cut the front lip underside mounting peices off though.

i was thinking this, thanks for the confirmation. I think I will only need to use the bracket for the drivers side since the passenger side holds up fine.

you have no idea how little time I have spent driving the car like it was meant to be driven. my msp ownership has been 95% problematic and 5% worry free.

should i just get the ARP studs for the head? dont really want to go through stock bolts breaking again because torque wrench i had was tested and is fine.

tis my same thought. idk how else to go about this... without having a licensed mechanic do it and charge me crazy to do so.

Sure it was the head studs and not the cam caps? I made the error of reading 11-13ft-lbs for those bolts when in-fact it was 11-13in-lbs. Be sure you're reading the torque setting. IIRC, those head studs don't need a lot of torquing once you do them in order...

EDIT: I was thinking about when I did a couple head installations on my old car. Because you have to "stretch" the bolt to seat it correctly in the head, its possible that you can stretch it too far before even reaching 11-13lb-ft torque and snap it. You might be using too long of a moment arm for it to register 11-16lb-ft at the right point. What we did was tighten the bolts down with a ratchet as far as I could do it by hand, guesstimating around 11 ft-lbs. I then took a breaker bar (aka long pipe), put it on the end of the ratchet and did the two 90 turns like the engine manual says (all bolts in order, of course). I never had any problems with my heads, it was all with me destroying the bottom end. :p

Long live the FS-DE!!!

I don't see where it was posted or asked so I'll ask the obvious question, were they new bolts to begin with?

yes brand new OEM head bolts. the 2nd time it broke i set the torque wrench to 7 ft lbs. so maybe its just set high.. i like the idea of hand tighten and i did read about turning the bolts once 90 degree and then start over and do again at 90 degrees. I might try again today. i did order some ARP head studs.. but if i can make these OEM ones work ill just return em and get my money back.... my next project is to get this walbro fuel pump in... all the tine screws around the gas pump cover are super rusted and it looked like someone had already tried cause 3 of them screws are stripped. eerrr previous owner crap

get a dremel- cut a slit in them like a flathead would use, and use a flathead. also SOAK the F*ck out of them with wd40 or PB blaster

GOT A QUESTION- i have a motor sitting in the shop with a spun bearing. i have standard bore arias pistons there too.. now, if i get the motor honed/etc.. do i need to get overbore pistons? or can i just get slightly bigger piston rings?
