What have you done to your MSP today?

well first we tried the set of bars that came off a wingless es protege but they still had a little too much tension for my cf trunk. Then we tried just one and it didnt work there wasnt enough tension so i ended up just using one msp bar. It was enough tension to pop it when i hit the trunk release but not enough up fling it up.

Are you getting flex on one side. I.e. is it pushing up and making it look funny ?

nope none of that. With one bar when i pop it trunk there isnt even enough pressure to lift the trunk up. There is just enough pressure to make it pop off the lock and to hold it up in the air.

so today i need to get my msp running. its all back together and its building compression., and wanting to start, its just not. the timing is right will check again and change the tensioner spring. also changeing the sparkplugs with the ones i just got. so i need some ideas. my only other question is:

theres 2 different ways the cam gears can go on. theres 2 notches on each gear. im curious if it makes a difference. im sure it does. any way to tell if i have it on right?

Make sure the I points to E on the two cam gears.

yes they do line up. but is that it the 2 different notches dont matter?

Of course they do. Pull off the valve cover and set the cam gears I to E and the crank with the notch upwards, just like in pic. Look at the cams, the lobes for cylinder one should be pointing opposite of each other to the outside of the engine.

he was talking about the way the cam gears sit on the actual cam, since there is like an L shaped notch

the cam gears are on right, i checked the service manual ricky had before i put those in to make sure they were the right way,
have you checked to see if your getting fuel? cuz i saw that you disconnected the fuel rail, maybe u have to bleed the lines or something
those new plugs should help too

edit: you guys beat me to it lol but im pretty sure there on right

Fuel system will self bleed

As far as the no start issue if its sputtering either your timing is off or you damaged/didnt plug in the crank or cam sensor

hmmmm well thats stuff to look at. and simon i tried calling you

could a bad tensioner spring cause it to not start?

how bad is yours? this is how bad mine was and it never had issues starting. ran it like this for about 6000 miles (unknowingly of course)

lol his is about the same as that, and he just checked the timing, its right
so i told him its either the cam or crank sensor...is there any way to check them?

got a code puller? it may be setting a code at this point.

hopefully none of the teeth were broken off the crank pulley during the service...And not entirely positive but do both cam gear have the pick up for the cam sensor or is the exhaust gear the only one with the pick up on it

both have a pickup, but the sensor is only on the exhaust...and i have a code reader, but im like 4 hours away from him lol
and he cant drive it so no way to get the code read really..

there is this wire thats messed up, he thinks that might be it, its the black box that connects to the engine lift point right near the coolant temp sensor...he should be posting a pic of it here in a sec

only exhaust and the crank pulley is fine. im trying to upload a picture of a plug that the wire got pulled out of a plug. the plug is going to a little black box with one bolt through the bottom. it bolts to the little piece of metal that bolts to the head where the distributer would be on the older fs motors. its got a couple other grounds going to the plate. could it just be a ground and could it cause it to not start? sorry thats the best description i can come up with.

Haha, mine was identical 323. Nice picture btw. My car was a b**** to start I guess because of the spring tensioner amoung other things like bad coils and plugs . Just finished doing the timing belt, tensioner and now the car runs smooth. ..finally.
