What have you done to your MS3 today?

If you keep the MS3 and assume 22 MPG, you'll be paying $1590 a year for gas. If you buy some hybrid that gets 45 MPG, you'll pay $778 a year. Difference of $812 a year. After 7 years, you save $5600. Absolutely not worth it in the least bit. This is with HIGHLY optimistic hybrid MPG and bad values for MS3. Nuff said.

Hear, hear! The hybrids are not what they're cracked up to be. If you factor in battery replacement, the cost/mile is very close, especially if the alternate to the hybrid is a two-year-old Civic or Corolla.

Actually i redid the numbers. After i quit going to the gym i went from about 35miles a day to 25. if i add a few milesworth of chores on weekends im actually averaging about 8k miles a year

buuuuuut, i dont get 22mpg. i cant even get that on the optimistic computer readout. Im actually getting 20mpg

Now, no one can say for sure what gas prices will do tomorrow let alone years away, but if you calculate premium at $4 and low grade at $3.70 (generally 30 difference in my area) and 45mpg (wayyy conservative i think) that would be $900/year in just gas savings. hmmm....doesnt seem worth it, even getting 2 years of free oil changes

the big difference would be if the wife drove it and gave me the truck. she is driving 13000 miles a year. if she drove the prius it would save us around $2500 a year

so now that we have that figured out the only question left would be whether SHE wants the prius and to give up the truck to me. Doesnt seem likely

we have decided to hold off for now, but at some point we WILL be trading in the ms3 for a new vehicle, and more than likely a major gas saver like a hybrid

so true, thanks for doing the arithmetic on that one

oakster, switching from Sam adams to busch lite will save far more moniez than chasing the pennies at the pump

look at it this way.....

trade in speed - say 15k.....
acquire prius and remove testicles - 23.5 + TTL say 25k OTD

you are 10k in the hole, using logic above that would require 12 years of ownership to break even

now get a used one for say 18k

3k in the hole, 4 yrs to break even

and for the record, i dont think ive ever hit 22mpg lol

although i have been conscious of it this tank and have 220 on it with a 1/4 left....so who knows

Youll have to ask my wife for my testicles

okay....so i did the ULTIMATE math.....

paying off a no interest, $10k loan over 60mos is $160/month. and yes there was 0% on the prius for 60mos. the point was to take the monthly payment in addition to monthly gas cost (god willing it doesnt change much over the next 5 years, riiiight) and compare that to the monthly gas cost of the ms3

so basically, the mazda costs me around $130/month in gas only. the prius payment with gas would end up about $210/month. that, to me, is the calculation that makes the most sense. so monthly id be losing.

the truck on the other hand, that costs about $280/month in fuel only. so if i took the truck and used it for my commute i could knock that down to maybe $160/month. if the wife took the prius, she should only be paying about $90/month for gas

so....riht now with an ms3 and a dodge ram we are spending a little over $400/month on gas. if i traded the ms3 for a prius, the wife took it and i drive the truck, we would be spending about $250/month on gas and another $160 on yhe loan. so its essentially a break-even when you account for todays gas prices

so thats that....did the math and no it doesnt work out. and that is only according to consistant gas prices and gas mileage, and monthly car payments. regardless, there are many other things that can be accounted for like repairs vs warranty, insurance, and the ever changing price of fuel

gonna be sticking with the ms3 for a while longer i guess.

yay

now get back to modding.

remember you want to maximize volumetric efficiency.

that requires the car to be able to breathe in and out as efficiently as possible

i recommend a 3" intake and full TBE with a tubular equal length manifold

a larger turbo will not spool as readily as the k04, so that should help, a 3071 will have good spool for power in emergency situations

of course a tune to maximize efficiency helps

now get to it

its rarely ever goign to pay off to get rid of an almost new car for a new car no matter the gas milage. Now get rid of the MS3 and get a late 90's civic, corolla etc and get between 30-38 MPG depending on driving, that will save money real quick

She'll probably blow her engine soon and the chassis will disintegrate and i will be forever curses to run over nails every 10miles....then the dealer will ring my doorbell and laugh at me when i answer

Power mods are definitely done. if anything i would paint my own stock wheels. other than that its gas-n-go for me, along with any repairs

like was said before im just gonna put my hard earned cash into projects. unfortunately they are all house related. and unfortunatly X2 none of those involve any kind of manspace. how can one kid require so much space?

had the car towed from work

car had a chassis oil bath, waiting on jacks and locals to arrive to diagnose

i feel like those mods might blow my engine and throw oil everywhere and ill have to get towed home from wor.........oh s*** sorry

motor still runs just without oil

no idea what happened, changed the oil on saturday, something leaking like a sieve

my car knows better than to blow its motor, ive revved that b**** to 9k a few times too

Hahaha i was drunk posting.....still am actually

so any thoughts? i shant believe you didnt tighten the filter or drain plug all the way....but i cant think of anything else that would have started after a simple oil change
