Wow ok, what are the signs? without moving the solenoid piston and feeling travel.
Dammit another item on the list. Take one off put two on. I need a personal mechanic and my Kids really have not worked out well as helpers.
Thanks J!

Well, I guess the actual topic traveled from seafoaming to cleaning the EGR. My situation has happened twice. I find that the car becomes "boggy," where it is definitely harder to drive due to almost stalling out, rough idle, etc... It doesn't happen instantly, but gradually over time, so it was hard to pinpoint the issue. I take it that this is due to carbon building in and around the EGR. Then eventually the EGR sticks open or closed (I can't remember) and triggers a CEL (sorry I cannot remember the exact code--P0401 I think...) At that point I clean the EGR, seafoam all the lines real good, and everything returns to normal.
The first time happened around 55,000 miles....and I didn't clean the EGR valve well, just a quick clean and seafoam. The second time was around 70,000 miles, at which point I completely removed the EGR and fully cleaned it, then ran seafoam and then oil change. Now she sits at 79,000 and still running smooth (for now)!
I am no mechanic, nor do I know many fancy words or parts...but I do know the issues I've had with my car, so hopefully these late night rambles help you and others with yours, I guess! LOL
edit: just checked RockAuto--$416 for a new EGR...you'd think Mazda would've designed such an expensive part to be a little less 'faulty.'
