What have you done to your Miata today?

Motor in, everything I know of hooked up but it won't start.. It's been a LONG weekend trying to bring the MSM back to life... I guess I'll try to figure it out tomorrow and throughout the week

Autocrossed today. I sucked. In my defense it's been a year since I have competed, and the lot had just had sealer put on it so traction was poor (of course everyone else had that same issue). I did have a pretty good spin, haven't checked yet to see if the GoPro was running or not.

I had a guy with a supercharged Fiero tell me my tires were too narrow for the wheels (I have 205s on 15 X 8). He informed me I could go 245 or even 255 on an 8" width. Every time he said something I just smiled and nodded.

Lulz... admittedly that combination probably does look quite narrow... but 255s on an 8in wheel? (boom04)

Prepare yourself for questions...

Did you reconnect the engine ground strap on the driver's side?

Did you connect the supply/return fuel lines correctly?

Did you hook up the vacuum lines to the FPR correctly?

When you turn the key 'on' do you get the fuel pump priming or other indications that everything *should* work?

Any particular symptoms that you've noticed?

When dropping in a new engine in mine I have to cycle the ignition on-off many times to get the fuel system re-primed. It's REALLY easy to flood the engine with too little fuel (weird right?) did you check your plugs to see if they were wet with fuel?

Yes to strap, yes to fuel lines, yes to vacuum lines, seemed most of those were only long enough to go to one connection.

when you turn the key 'on' fuel pump fires up, but starter does nothing... no noise no response at all

Here's a video of one of my runs yesterday: http://youtu.be/AbJBJFZJun4

I did catch the spin but the camera didn't shut off so that clip is over 25 minutes long. Have to see if I can cut it down before uploading it.

SHES ALIVE!!! granted start up has always been a bit rough with this car and ill get that figured out in due time, im just happy cause thats the first time shes fired since easter!!!

Way to go Levi!

Just got done with some auto tuning of the MS. The gas smell under boost is nearly gone, so it must have been some issue with the wiring along with the tune I had done during the problem. I have to do some more tuning to get all the cells to turn green but it's on the right track.

Congrats Levi!

Tam and I are off the rest of the week so took a drive down to Sandy Hook today with the top down. :) We thought about stopping at the nude beach just to say we had done it but opted to head home instead. lol

Thanks guys, going through the paces to find the misfire... I think I've narrowed it down to the ignition coils... Plugs I put in brand new were FILTHY from a whopping 3 miles and about 30 mins idling and revving in the driveway... Def not getting spark, plugs and wires are both pretty new, so I'm leaning towards the coils which I found were stock and have lived past it's 75k life expectancy so I'll be looking tomorrow for someone hopefully local I can test theirs so I can go about ordering some

I'm so ready to get mine back and put it back together. Got some more off season mods planned, and a steadily growing pile of parts.

Going to be building a dashboard for it to house the Shift-i LED shift light / tach, a new instrument set up for the MS (still using the tablet, ditching the steering wheel mount, adding an oil pressure input to the ECU), a Joe's Racing roll-bar mount mirror, an FM 36-2 trigger wheel to get a cleaner signal for the ECU, and a JamesCH thermostat neck delete w/ temp sensor mount. And I'm sure I'll find some other things to do between now and me getting 'er back. I'm heading to my cage builder's place towards the end of September to build / install the dash and help out getting the cage in. After that, it'll need paint, then an install thrash. Gonna be a good / long winter. My concern now is getting it back in time for me to be able to paint the cage before it gets too cold, so, we'll see how that works out. Maybe I'll paint it at his place (heated) if it gets too late lol

Got some new goodness. Need to get it down to Jim Downing in Atlanta to have it re-certified and the straps updated, and install the anchors on my helmet. Fortunately, my helmet is pre-drilled for HANS anchors, so the installation should not be an issue.

Coil packs came in today ahead of the tracking schedule (tracking had them here Tuesday or Wednesday)
Put those in, check the plug gaps again and fired her up and put the first 30 miles on the rebuild... Felt GREAT to get to drive her for a little bit this afternoon on some nice back roads.

Not up to 100% yet but each fix gets it closer and closer, I'll focus on getting my laptop setup for the Hydra tomorrow or Monday and start doing some logs to see how a lot of things are working right now

Had a blast at Mid Ohio, learned a lot and reduced the things I need to improve on. She drove like a champ, Andrew Carbonell beat the crap out of her and loved it. I'm exhausted and have a pounding headache, so video will come later.

Found the coolant leak in my car: hose clamp from the bypass hose had started to rub on the coolant cap at the back of the head and poked a hole in it. Replaced it and rearranged the hose clamps so it wouldn't happen again.

Still need to figure out why my fuel economy is sucking with this engine... power feels GREAT, but I'm getting 22-24mpg instead of 27-30.

That's always something to be mindful of. I *think* I did a good job of that on mine, but time will tell with vibrations and what not.

RE fuel economy: is there possibly an injector stuck open or a bad or a less than optimal cruise tune on the ECU? I don't know exactly what changed from the last engine to this one, just some thoughts.
