What do I need?

Hey guys.

I'm an owner of a 2001 mp3.... I just found a mazdaspeed turbo and manifold for a good price. I was in the all motor scene so my turbo knowledge is minimal. I am researching though. I justwant to know what else do I need?

I know these are what I need for sure.
turbo, manifold, downpipe, bov, ems, injectors. am I right? I want to get an fmic.
any insight would be greatly appreciated!

also do you think I should source out these parts to build my turbo kit or is it just easier to buy a kit from mam or hiboost..... price does pay a facter!

Thanks!

hmm, what exactly is your plan ? did you want to just do like a upgrade to the MSP setup, or go bigger and better than a stock MSP can manage ?

if you want to "bolt-on" the MSP turbo, you would need the turbo, manifold, MSP ecu and harness, associated lines and fittings, intake, downpipe, associated fuel accessories, and whatever else. pretty much like an engine swap almost

If you want power out of it. Just get a turbo kit from Hiboost, the one that sell will everything you need. It also include FMIC, a bigger turbo and a Haltech EMS.

If you try to put up a turbo kit together, you are looking at around 2g at least. Add FMIC and bov, you are looking at somewhere around $3000. But that will only get you around 190-200whp. If you get a better turbo it will be $1000 more, Haltech EMS is about $1300 more. So for you to get the same amount of power as hiboost, you will need at least $5000.

The kit they sell is $3800(I think). that will get you 240whp easy.

I don't think you really "need" injectors right away.

So you have sourced the turbo and manifold, and you need everything else? I haven't seen anyone running a turbo without at least the stock side mount intercooler, so I doubt you could push much boost at all without one.

Building your own kit is cool if you really want to learn about it I guess but the kits from mam and hiboost are really nice too (I've seen both).

I'll wait for someone else to chime in, I'm not boosted myself but I am around here a lot so I've picked up some knowledge about it here and there.

I'm "all motor" I guess. I'll get dynoed some day and find out I'm not even triple digit horsepower, and then I'll get really sad and go boosted.
