I was 18 when I got my 1st car. 1986 Honda Accord. I had a choice between that and a Subaru XT Alcyone. I still think the Subie was a better choice but hey, I was 18.

At the age of 16, i received a hand-me down from my parents which was a 1991 Mazda 323 with a 5 speed. Fun little car at the time...wish i could have kept it.

When I was 16 my parents let me drive their '86 323 5 speed. I started driving with 225k miles original transmission and clutch. It was an awesome little car the only thing that I had to change out were the rear struts and brake pads. In the end the AC kept needing more and more freon. So at 335k miles we sold it for $700 I wish I still had it. Got it up to 120mph once too.

Good Day
I inherited my Grandfathers 62 Plymouth Fury at 16, it was a great car with a 318 CI motor and a push button automatic.
It had a posi rearend and it would power brake and burn the rubber off a set of retreads in a weekend.
I thought it was fast compared to the 62VW bettle I had driven since I was 12.
It was somthin smokin up the parking lots till it threw a rod goin to St Pete JC one morning.
That is when the mechanic tought me the oil wasn't suppose to look like black cottage cheese and that you needed to change it every 2-3K miles.
Boy did I feel enlightened!!

This will demonstrate how old I am, but also how my cars have gotten faster to this day. My first car was a 1959 Volkswagen, bought for me by my dad when I was 17. After that came the following, in order:
1964 Austin Mini
1965 Honda S-600
1965 Mustang convertible (V8)
1961 Chevy BelAir
1966 Triumph Spitfire
1959 Rambler American (a gift)
several motorcycles intervened
1987 Pontiac Fiero GT
1990 Mustang 5.0
1987 Suzuki Samurai (second car)
2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT
2008 Mazdaspeed 3

I will show you how old I am too. My first ride wasn't a car but a NEW 1975 Kawasaki 400 S3 triple 2 stroke, Worked at a Honda/ Kawasaki dealer. I think that winter I bought a worn out 1968 VW with no heat and little or No brakes. It was fun pulling the E Brake on snow covered roads untill I pulled it at too high of a speed and almost killed myself after that it was a 71 mavrick with a 6 banger. One year later came the WEED WAGON , you know a shag carpeted Ford van with a ladder rack, 1/2 moon windows, captain chairs, a bed with a glass mirror of ther Grateful dead on the inside wall above the small refrig..

My ride when I was 16, chicks did't care for it, I wondered why.

My first car was a 1989 Dodge Shadow. The most simple car ever! But when your 16 just having a set of wheels is nice. Drove it for a year or two until I got a 1988 Corolla GT-S, which I bought off my uncle. That eventually became my toy and man I had fun with it, until the gremlins started taking over. Had it for 5 or 6 years I can't remember anymore, now i've got the MS3.

my first car when I was 16 was a bright red 1991 camaro rs with a smashed in front bumper and 155k. paid 1250 from working my ass off at einstein bagels... fun car even tho it was a pos, but hey im 19 now and loooove my ms3

I started out driving my mom's 89 subaru GL10 station wagon... 90 hp with a 3 speed AT. lol. It had a hard time maintaining 65mph on the freeway, I once lost a drag race to a tractor trailer (I'm not kidding). The 4wd was amazing though. I only drove it for 4 months before I got my 93' Eclipse GS (which got a turbo swap soon after).

My wife (which I was dating back then!) had an 86' CRX Si that I found in the backlot of a garage I regularly delivered to as a NAPA delivery driver. It had a broken torsion bar and some rust, and the owner had given up on it so we picked it up for her for $300. Fun car.

1984 Mustang Coupe. bad orange. was originally a 4 cyl.. dad and i swapped in a 302 with a c4 trans that was originally from a column shift, so we had to modify the shift selector to fit the floor shift. and it was UGLY!! but it would smoke the tires.. haha

total invested $275.. sold it for $900
