what are all these wires and relays doing behind me headllamps

:
02 Mazda P5
What uo guys I have had my p5 for about 3 years now, and I was wondering that all these wires and stuff are doing there. Was done by the owner befor me. Im thinking I had to do with the brights, cause at night there are really bright as if I have my high beams on and many people flash there lights at. Has anyone seen this done to othere or has anyone done this, I'll post up some oics of what I was talking about.

Well, when you turn on your headlights, go to the front of the car and see which bulbs are illuminated.
The outside bulbs are the low beams. The inside bulbs are the high beams.
Does the fog light switch work? Are the fog lights always on regardless of fog light switch position?

Park your car perpendicular in front of a wall on a flat surface at night. At least 10 feet from the wall if not more. This is to get a ballpark idea to determine if your headlights are not aimed properly. The center of the low beam should be lower than the center of the headlight housing. Lower the low beam aim if they are above center.
If the fog lights are always on, check the aim of the fog lights. They should be downward to illuminate the ground in front of the vehicle, not forward. Fog lights are pretty intense as there is no coated shielding like a high beam bulb.

When I first got the car I did the foglight mod myself. The fogs had to be on with the switch b4 i did the mod for it to work with the parking lghts on. Ill check when I get my lunch break im thinking he did it to were the high beams are the driving lights at night. Can any of you guys post ur stock headlight setup so I can see what it should really look like thanks.

It may be relays to make the lights brighter than they would be otherwise. I use a similar set up on my 72 skylark to compensate for the older/weaker wiring to the lights.

Thats what I was thinking but It looks like he spliced the wires and took off the original connector.

Ok so I went online to look for the stock harness for the p5 and came across these diagrams, is this the same thing I have on the car.

Those are without fail the best diagrams I have ever seen on a car forum. Kudos to whoever made them.

As for the OP's problem, if you have non-protege5 headlight housings (just one reflector bowl, not two) then I would say you found your answer. I'd geuss if someone along the lines replaced the headlights, they found the sedan ones to be cheaper and put those in with the relays.

Based on what I'm seeing in the sig pic and the third pic, I'm going with ^this.

So the headlights that I have are the msp headlights. The lights I havehas a side corner light, one headlight bulb and the middle turn signal bulb.

Looks good ^^^^^^ It would be cool to have the bumper without the sidemarker and use the sidemarker in the housing with those headlights and then have the 03 fenders with the blinker between wheel well and front door. That is the setup I would like to have. I need the bumper skin and the headlight housings for mine since it is 03 and already has the blinker in the fender to make it happen. Dunno if it'll ever happen tho.
