Weight Reduction?

that wouldnt reduce weight because you still have the battery in your car, only thing that does is clean up the engine bay

it would add weight with the longer cables, hardware, and enclosure, but would benefit handling with better weight balance

I got a set of rpf1s. They weigh 17lbs in the 18x7.5 size and cost $248 each. Not cheap but not expensive either.

I didn't get the plastic cap in my box. I Like the bling, but would have like to have the plastic one also. I could put it on ebay.

"Speed 3 light weight oil cap 20+ HP gain only $19.95"

To be serious, I guess if you wanted to shave some weight, I guess the only things I could think of would be the spare and all of the jack and tool equipment is a start. If you were truly serious and had a god place to store it I would say the back seat is up for grabs. The rear doors would give you access but I am pretty sure it would rattle like a pen in a can. I am sure that is good for some pretty decent weight reduction. You could also remove the sub under the passenger seat if you have a GT model.

Another thing would be to make sure your car is clean and free of random garbage. The reason i say that is a friend of mine recently bought a new car and when he took out all of the junk from his old car like paper, old water bottles, coins, old clothes. All of those things added up to a nice chunk of weight.

The hood could be switched for a cf hood, that'd save at least 20 lbs
a lightweight battery could be swapped out- about 15 lbs
some aftermarket parts like a turboback and the manifolds could be replaced and that could save qutie a bit of weight
rims and tires could save close to 40 total.

That's close to 100 lbs right there. Thats without removing the spare and all of that.

Good point, very expensive though!

Yeah, I was also looking into evenly balancing the car. Thought that would help.
I don't know if it would. Our vehicle is actually sort of dependent on the weight over the front end. It provides grip for hard launches, grip for breaking, grip for turning, and it keeps the ass end light enough that we can induce oversteer on the track if you're smart about it.

If we move enough weight back, we won't launch as well, brake as well, and a more even weight balance in the rear will actually affect our ability to off-throttle oversteer. We're front wheel drive, after all, and there are actually some advantages to having weight in the front for us.

If I was going to lighten this car, I'd want to do it front and rear at roughly the same rate.

I agree. The professionals always make sure to even things out and keep the dynamics of the car stable so as to create snap oversteer or excessive understeer. However I am curious how the speed would react to less weight and lightweight wheels and components. I would almost venture to say we may even get a nice drop in fuel consumption.

I also can't see a easy way of shedding/redistributing weight, save for buying lighter wheels, taking out junk from the trunk and filling up with as little fuel as nessesary for a particular run. From there on it's all about taking things out and putting new, lighter and expensive stuff in, or modding the car so that the battery is in the trunk, etc. And you'd have to tweak the suspension so that the car would have a proper set up for the new weight dist. In my mind all of this would just obey the law of diminishing returns, because it would require a lot of money for a few seconds (or tenths) around a given track.

The cheapest way to get a seriously better time from the ms3 would be to save up and go to a pro driving school and mod the driver. The cheapest way to get a better weight distributed car,in my mind, would be to sell the ms3 and buy something designed from the get go with those parameters.

im still debating if i should take out the spare/tools from the back.... if i do does anyone know how to make the base not soo lumpy with the tire gone?

Why would you want to do that? For weight reduction?? lol. What happens when you get a flat?

Yeah but you gotta sit there a wait w / thump up your arse until they get there..

do they give u spare tire free or just tow it somewhere lol...

never have once gotten a flat tire on the road or ever called triple a (thumb)

Usually they'll just put the spare on for you. I guess if you don't have a spare they'd tow it to your house or something.
Ibet they wouldnt be happy if you took it out though.. just more trouble for them.
Just leave it in there. It's not worth it.

I took out the tie down eyelet it would only be needed if the car get stuck off road if that happens your screwed anyway if I go the the track the spare will get ditched
