Your Mom
I just bought my MSP and in a little over 1 week i put a lil over 700 miles on it (I drive alot). I babied the breakin period with 5+min warmups not going into turbo intill car was fully warmed up. I always shifted at no more than 5000 rpms (well maybe once or twice at 6000).

So today i was driving with my GF from her mothers house and i go to get onto a main road. The car is fully warmed up because we were only there breifly. I pull out in first and shift at 4-4500 rpms and then i drop it into second and the turbo kicks in at around 4000rpms and i hear a whine like always (this whine has been concerning me doesn't sound right to me) and i get ready to shift at 5000 and BOOOMMMM, CACHUNK!!!

Felt and sounded like I threw a rod. the car starts loosing power and eventualy stalls outI have enough time to pull it out of the way and i get out and check the engine. Everything looks fine no smoke no leaks no nothing. So i start it up and it starts right up. I hit the gas and it stalls.

I realize i can start and drive to my dealer which was conveniently a mile away. As i go into first i feel a major bog of power loss. I was hell trying to keep this thing going. It stalls when i go into second so i startit up on the role. I get it into second and it hessitates to get over 35 but eventually goes. Power seemed consistant so i keep it there at about 5000 rpms all the way to the dealer. I pull into the dealer and when i go to slow down for the turn it stalls AGAIN!! i start on a role and pull it into a spot and it stalls YET AGAIN!

I walk in see my salesman and dealer manager and they ask me how the cars is. I tell them its DEAD! Their jaws nearly hit the ground!

Well they get me a loaner immediately and are giving the car to the Master Mechanic on monday morn. So for now i am driving a Protege5.

The reason i left Nissan was because of horrible customer service. mazda, even though i think i got a lemon, has great customer service so far.

There ar NO mods to my car, any of you have any guesses to what may be wrong. Did i not break in the turbo right, I RTM and followed it. This concerns me. WTF!

I think the turbo took a s***... and dont worry... it'll be covered by warrantee if you had no mods.

Wow! That sucks man. I have about 500 on mine and have been pretty good to her. I have gotten up to 80 mph, and did a few shifts near 5500 when I hit 450 miles feeling I could but no hard driving by any means. Ya got me worried. Let us all know what happens.

You became a victim of probability.

These things do happen, no car is ever 100%, and may have gotten one where for all you know, the grain on the crank coiuld be off or a bad injector, something..

Hopefully it's something small, and you will be of, but enjoy the slow P5..

I love mine, but then I really should not have a faster car...

I am sure the Dealershit will take care of you..

Mine didn't believe me when I had a broken reverse fork, luckily I had another dealershit I went to and got it fixed..

(pissed)

wow, that sucks....hopefully it is just your turbo, as it is easily reaplced(kinda). Even if it is a rod, if it didn't mangle the block, it can still be faiirly easily fixed, but the block can also be replaced if needed. They should fix it for you no problem since there were no mods. I was a little tough on my car during the break in period, and it was fine...so that shouldn't be an issue...hope all works out

sounds like either the intake bypass valve nipple thingy broke and is leaking air, or one of the intercooler or throttle body pipes popped off giving the maf false readings because the pop sound, and the stalling problem you had sounds exactly what happened to me. sure enough one of the pipes popped off and caused my car to act like that... but if not let us know :D -mike

yeah it is 110% covered under warranty and no restrictions on the loaner. I have it until they fix it! I am very happy with the service so far, but a lil dissappointed in the "laws of probability". Well lets hope its an easy fix (quick) I want my sound system back:(

Also the Turkey thing, is that when you let off the gas in shift and you hear it reverb when it blows-off? Because my turbo was a BIG skreecher and reverbed like crazy when shifting into 3rd. but damn did that thing sound like metal on metal in 4th gear

sounds like a intercooler hose popped off.

as for the turkey...it's heard between shifts...not too noticeable on a stock car but if you get a intake it will amplify the sound

the metal on metal sound you are hearing in 4th gear is the turbo...and that is normal if you are running it hard. it will sound like that for a while then will slowly degress.

I have to agree with ARunto. I had the same thing happen to me when merging on the freeway at WOT one day. I heard a noise come from the motor and my CEL came on. I lost all power and my car stalled to a roll to the side of the road. I was freaking out until I looked under the hood and noticed my top intercooler pipe came off. I just screwed it back on and it started right back up. WHEW! I hope it wasn't anything serious computerGeek. Good Luck!

im happy with my car i guess... i beat the tar out of it... only mod i have is an injen intake and it runs great! to bad for you man, good luck!

yes, sounds like the incident i had when i attached my injen incorrectly, i bet this guy didn't even look at the stock piping! other that that he got the defect! hehe

could it be that the turbo went to s*** because of the period of time that the car has been sitting in the lot? it's not like the 2003.5 MSPs are still being produced. everything they sell now (including P5s, protege sedans, MSPs, etc) are old stock and have been sitting either in the sales lot or the storage lot.

When my exhaust fell in half it caused the motor to move enough to dislodge the IC pipes and man it scared the s*** out of me. The car had NO power and it was shuttering like a b****. At first I thought the motor went but then after I pulled over I realized what had happened and Mazda Customer Serviced kicked ass for me as well. Good luck...

First i am not a total retard. I looked at all pipes and hoses and stuff i could in the middle of the road. I didn't see anything major. It all looked good to me but who knows i could have missed something as simple as a pipe being slightly loose. I was looking for something disconected. It wasn't a putter. It was pretty drastic and scared the crap outta me and my GF. Well they can't even look at it until tonight so i sit anxiously awaiting!!

Sucks, but at least it happened at 700 miles, and not 70,000. My 10050 miles have been problem free, with plenty of 10psi spirited driving.
The cars arent extremely tough, but they hold up fine.

To anyone out there doesn't think they will have the occassional problem, here is my recommendation, don't buy one or sell it if you did. (attn)

Keep us posted as to the cause of failure. I'd be interested to know what happened and good luck, I hope you get it back soon. ;)

Whoa there junior no one was calling you names don't get your coochie in a twist. All I knew is that my exhaust had come loose. I could not tell my IC pipes were apart just from looking. When I got my car back they told me about it and it was on the work invoice.
So if you're not a total retard does that mean you're a partial tard? Then you could call yourself "Computard The Magnificent!"

s*** that sucks. I had the Mazda 6 before I got my MSP and that thing had a bad gas tank retaining ring setup. Well after bitching up a storm at the Dealer they bought it back and I bought the MSP instead. Come to find out I get a notice in the Mail the other day saying that there recalling all the Mazda 6 cars because of a faulty gas tank retaining ring. Pieces of sh**. I'm happy with my MSP though. Good luck, and I have to say overall I'm happy with Mazda Service out here in the Henderson Mazda, even though I live in Las Vegas, I drive to this one, awesome customer service compared to the one I bought my car at. GOOD LUCK.
