Weakest part of Engine?

Rods are pretty ******* thin on this motor but they'll hold if you tune properly i.e don't **** s*** up.

I would think that the head gasket would be weak (that seems to be the problem with many turbocharged cars).

I personally would cryo the rods, crank, pistons...... Hell just cryo everything, then really crank up the BOOST (wow) !!!

Anything in the engine would be weak due to inproper tuning. It's called detonation, and the usually the first thing to go is the head gasket. Of course that thing is weak, think about an explosion in the cylinder, and head gasket is pretty thin compare to a rod or a bolt. So, the head gasket usually goes first. Joe P used stock internal and thru his proper tuning and his experiences, he got the car up to 18psi of boost and 250+ whp.

My 2 cents is that nothing is weak with proper tuning.
And when you upgrade the internals you usually do the whole thing anyway. I know people are going to argue about this, but think about this: this engine wasn't design as a turbocharged engine since it's beginning and the fact that people can push 18 psi of boost on stock internals is a pretty good testament to the roboustness of Mazda engine.

weakest motor part??

HEAD GASKET!! Trust me on this one. I've only got 35oo miles and my motor slung all 4 rods because the damn gasket flooded the combustion chamber with coolant. Now Mazda won't warranty my motor because I have an aftermarket airfilter and removed the resonator from my exhaust!! Don't ever go to the dealership for ANY kind of work after modding your car. They won't fix it!

Thats bull sh** how does an aftermarket airfilter and removing a resonator blow a head gasket? I would hire a lawyer or something because they are f***ing you over.

Everybody says the rods, but this rods compared to any civic, ours are beefier, but longer. Thats why our cars are torque wise, not HP. Power output will be almost lineal to torque.
Rods are weak, Ive seen it with my own eyes.

Matty, I think you raised the boost too much to cause any damage to the head gasket. Our head gaskets are 3 layer, and they hold a lot of power, in order to cause dammage to the gasket this way, heat had something to do with it.

Please correct me if im wrong.

And...what are you doing now? Is it already fixed?

Pauter does Rods...... 720.00 USD for 4

Wiseco will do Pistons for about 115 USD a slug w/ pins, locks and rings.

Email this guy and let's show interest in the pistons! They'll come way down in price if we show interest.
