warranty

I would like a better bumper to bumper also but apparently the bean counters took over. Up until I think 2007 it was 4 years, 50k miles. Then they went to the 3/36 bumper to bumper and 5/60 for powertrain.

'06s had the 4/50 warranty (and we needed it). It changed in '07 to 3/36.

because they don't need to!! there are realtivily few issues with the car. I've always looked at long factory warranties as a way for car companies to get you to buy low quality cars! look at GM's latest warranties! I still woudn't touch one! It would have to have a lifetime unlmited mileage warranty for me to even look at a GM product!

Similarly, long warranties encourage misuse and neglect. This also brings up the total cost of each vehicle built, as the mfr has to cover neglected-but-unproven claims. So, if you want the price on Mazda5s to climb, clamour for a longer warranty.
I always felt that problems in the 1st 3-5 years are the mfr's fault, but most of the problems after that are the owner's fault.

Unless it's a major powertrain issue, I do all of my work myself. Long warranties are for people who would rather hand they're problems to someone else, IMHO. I'd rather do it myself. Alot of parts come with lifetime warranties, so if it messes up again, the only cost is time, which you're out either way since you have to leave your vehicle with them for who knows how long.

I'm mixed on the issue but still lean toward a longer bumper to bumper combined warranty than having extended powertrain and short total coverage.

Powertrains are pretty reliable these days. They usually either die early in their life or last 250k+ with proper maintenance. I don't nitpick the dealer but want the car covered for items that are the manufacturer responsibility. Everyone remember the squeaky bushings? Blown out rear shocks?

Many of us (including me) suffered through repeated part replacements even beyond the warranty period on my 2006 Mazda5. Due to the repeated problem Mazda kept doing it under warranty but I had to fight for it. If that 2006 had the 3/36 plan I would have probably been out of pocket a lot of dollars form something Mazda didn't design right.

On the other hand I think the ONLY powertrain failure I've had in 22 years was a blown head gasket on a 1988 Shelby CSX-t. But that car had 140k miles when it happened and I had been running the motor with 14lbs of non-intercooled boost for probably the past 70k miles. I can't really fault Chrysler for that.....

...Everyone remember the squeaky bushings?

I think mine has been exhibiting this issue off/on for the past month. It's happened twice for <30 minutes then it's gone. It's definitely suspension related because I heard it when we're driving, and we park to go into wherever, I can bounce the front end to cause it. Next drive, it's gone. The other time I noticed it, it quit while we were driving. Ours is still under the full warranty @ only 19k, but I'm picking up some lithium grease this afternoon so I can lube the sway bar bushings while I'm underneath doing some maintenance for an upcoming road trip.
