Vibrant Exhaust ?'s

AH....gotcha.

If you get the Vibrant, I can promise you will like it. I get compliments on the sound of it all the time from strangers.

Stock exhaust. I replaced the second O2 with my wideband, and was using narrowband output from the wideband box, but it's all screwed up because the narrowband output is configured to simulate the stock front O2 (not specified in the directions). So I'm getting engine codes for the second O2.

I'm getting an estimate done soon for my custom 2.5" exhaust, but the Vibrant might be the better bang for the buck. And if the Vibrant also comes with that hole, than that's one less piece of work I have to get done if/when I buy it.

I could get a good deal on the Perrin, but hell, why pay more for less?

Perrin: 3" stainless, J-pipe-back, no cat (so you still have the first stock cat), no flex section, no resonator, $860 local pickup with 5 day wait for them to get it
Vibrant: 3" stainless, S-pipe-back, highflow cat (deletes both cats and replaces with one HFC), flex section, resonator, $860 shipped

mwah ha ha, might be able to get the Vibrant for cheaper from a local distributor.

Tough choice there.

Can't go wrong :)

Actually, with the Perrin.....you don't have your first stock cat, do you? I think the only part that stays is the 'J' part, which doesn't have a cat on it.

Does anyone have pictures of the exhaust? Maybe I'll just buy it and take pictures of all the pieces side by side to the stock system.

I can take pics of it on my car if you want. I don't have a lift, but I can slide the camera under and take a few.

I thought someone did a side by side somewhere. I think it's on that really long thread about the vibrant. I'll see if I can find it.

Yeah, I saw that picture on Vibrants website. I'm also waiting for a quote from a local distributor. I'm searching the LARGE vibrant exhaust thread as we speak.

Have fun...that thread is so long.

When I first had mine installed the rattle I got was the head shield under the shifter. I don't have kartboy hangers but have both MT motor mounts. There was also a slight occasional rattle from the rear heat shield by the muffler.

I didn't (still don't) have a mount to secure the exhaust to the transmission underneath the car. I'm not sure if the newer Vibrants have this or not, but your stock J-pipe was attached at the tranny. I'd go get a bracket made and get it secured especially if you don't have both MT or AT motor mounts installed. This second connection point is designed so that any flex in the motor isn't taken out on the exhaust manifold. Think about it - if your motor moves fore and aft, and your exhaust is more or less fixed in place farther back, the exhaust manifold / turbo / s-pipe is absorbing all the flex. Sooner or later the metal is going to fatigue and crack... If vibrant's already added this piece, good on them! (i have the original vibrant prototpye for the MSP on my car so it came without all the bells & whistles... I had to have bungs welded in for EGT and will have to get another one for wideband one day)...

Yes, it is long, but I made it through. It's easy to scan through every post looking for links and pictures. I found the pictures I was looking for side-by-side. Could you take some pictures of it installed? I only want one of the rear bumper, so you can see the entire back of the car, and of the DP and that extra bung. If you aren't willing I understand.

I can hook you up. They won't be until after work today, but I'll get what I can.

I know I have a few of the rear already.

The one for the extra bung, I can try to get. I don't know exactly how I can get a picture of that, but I'll try. The second bung hole (funny) that you have to put the o2 sensor in, I can't get a pic of that as it's on the top half of the exhaust pipe.

Does that make sense?

Perfect sense. I can see where the stock O2 sensor is supposed to go from the picture on Vibrant's site, so no need for that picture. I'm still baffled by the bung inbetween the cat and the s-pipe. Why the hell is it there in the first place and why did Vibrant put it into their exhaust?

LOL..they were probably thinking ahead ;).

Doubtful, just look at the stock fuel curve and you'll see Mazda didn't think too far ahead. It was cool for Vibrant to include it though.

LOL...when you said they, I thought you were talking about Vibrant.

As for Mazda, who knows....they probably screwed up and had the diagram backwards.

Here are the pics, sorry for the delay :)

Sorry, she's a little dirty.

Thanks for the pics. For being such a large tip, it doesn't look that out of place on the MSP. Thanks again.

No prob. Actually, I like how the tip flow at a perfect angle to match the bumper lip.

Bam, WBO2 now in the mysterious additional downpipe bung. Yay no more engine codes and not running in open loop because of faults. Thanks again for the tips and pics, +1 rep.
