Those v-6's are such jokes. I will never understand what caused Mazda to make that brilliant marketing decision.

probetalk.com has a lot of info, people on there have put kl-03s in base and se model probes which originally came with a fsde, it's not as difficult as everyone might think, all you need is the engine, tranny, wireing harness, ecu, and axels from a probe gt, mx6, or 626. I personally would go with the j-spec klze since it puts out 200hp with the j-spec ecu, or about 195 with the american kl-03 ecu, and there is always megasquirt.

One day when my engine dies and i have time, i might give it a try since i have ao lot of the parts necessary for the swap. (I have owned 3 probes, 2 94 gt, and a 96 se)

Wouldn't a V-6 swap be much more expensive than just turboing?

yep, but try telling that to all the people that actually do the ZE swap, instead of boosting the 03..

this would be a very worth while swap. i thought about it for the longest time and actually was in the process of swaping a kl-03 in my old 93 lx. ive heard that those motors with head work and 150 shot are lethal.

wow

can u imagine a v6 twin turbo mp5 damn i want one of those (wow) (wow) (wow) (wow) (wow) (wow)

then you would totally destroy the purpose of the protege. light weight sedan with modest power and balanced handling. this car would be like 3k + lbs and handle like an suv. though im sure in a straight line it would be fast but not any faster than an evo with a stand alone. which would be alil more cost friendly not to mention more reliable. but to each his own. i personally think the protege with about 200 whp in the FS is more than enough to keep it fast and still have that aggressive handling we have come to love

another V6 option would be the Contour SVT 2.5L V6. Dunno if they mount up the same as the KL as i have never really studied them, i have seen the american KLs when i rebuilt heads, but never had a SVT head or block that i know of so i cant say how they bolt up. But lemme tell you, the SVT sounds sick with just an intake on it. I couldnt imagine one with a super or turbocharger. They also had 200/200 stock.

here is where we have a custom AWD P5 project starting.....this project is going to be expensive!

why would it be custom? all uhave to do is get the factory parts from japan..says corksport anyways..

I don't consider my P5 to be a fast car or even a possibility of being a fast car. I love it for the show. I don't understand why people spend so much money boosting the power. Get a better platform.

I personally look at the Evo's and WRX's for a modifing to go fast type of thing. By the time I switch my P5 with a fast car, there will probably be new cars out, so I don't want to say that's what I would get.

When my MSP popped on the dyno I pulled the engine from my 1990 Taurus SHO which is a 3.0L duratec (basically)....it is DIMENSIONALLY the same size as the 2.5L duratec.
It will NOT fit with extensive modification to the frame rails. The engine block IS longer believe it or not. In order to keep the belt system off the frame rail you'd have to cut the right axle and shorten it about 4-5" which would make torquesteer and wheelspin UNcontrolable.
The protege bay is big enough but not without butchering the tranny/axle/mounts/suspension.
I'm the only person I know who's gone this far with it in a 3rd gen.
After getting into totalling up the cost I sold the car and forgot all about it.
Putting an SHO engine/tranny RWD (midengine) would be MUCH easier....and actually quite possible.

A P5 can be really really fast, you just need forced induction and a built block. P5 is a really nice platform in reality - looks, brakes, suspension - :D

I don't think a P5 can get the numbers I am looking for. Something like 0-60 in the 3's, quarter in under 10. That's my goal in a few years, but not with a p5.

yeah, definatly not gonna get that with a p5 even if you convert it to the Japanese spec awd..

Get a Crotch Rocket for that! You must not plan on that as a daily driver. I'd like to see a 10 second car in bumper to bumper traffic. (burnout)
