Upgrading my turbo...

Yo, wazzup guys.

Pretty soon, I will be installing a custom turbo kit on my msp. This kit will consist of a Turbonetics T3/T4E turbo, OBX Exhaust manifold, custom downpipe, 440cc injectors, and the Split-Second AFC.

My current mods consist of a custom FMIC setup, custom 3" downpipe-back exhaust, HKS SS BOV, and a greddy profec type s EBC.

My question is how many psi would I be able to run after I install the turbo kit?

its the internals that you have to worry about. The rods are too weak for bigger boost, but I still run my T3 at around 9-10psi. Get rid of the stock rods and you should be good.

I'm still running my stock ECU even though I know I shouldn't. I'll have the MPI tuner as soon as I can figure it out, I can't have any down time with my car right now so I had to take it back out to get my car running. I had issues with the install. I have a full DP back 3" exhaust and it's a spool turbo kit. I traded my msp set up and some money for it.

Yeah I'm still running it as if it were stock. The stock map has been pretty good as it runs way too rich for the stock turbo. As I go higher in the RPM's at full boost it will tend to lean out so I need to becareful. I still have the MPI that I need to install and that will take care of me at higher boost at least up to 11-12 psi but I will be able to make more power as it takes care of ignition as well.

9psi doesn't sound like you need a turbo upgrade just yet. I had been running my stock set up at around that and had no issues. I have bigger plans for my car and I needed to go bigger turbo to run the boost that I was looking for.

9psi on the T3/T4 will make a difference from 9psi on the stock. I have to replace the stock one anyway cuz it's on its last leg. it's burning off alot of oil.

The t3/t4 turbo you are going to be using flows a lot more air than the stock msp turbo so you won't need to run a lot of boost to make good power. The AFC should be perfectly good for altering afr's to help cure the rich tune from the factory. I have one on my car and it runs nicely, but I still intend on making a new map that is better than the stock AFC map using the stock injectors or maybe 440s.

just an fyi. 9psi on a t3/t4 is like 13 psi on the stock turbo. on the stock block thats askin 4 it. even with a good tune it will blow up. maybe not as soon as you do it but give it a few months to a year.
