Turbo

Ok I was just kicking this idea around and was thinking it might be kind of cool to do a old school protg turbo. My question is giving say a 92 5 speed in good condition with the SOHC would be easy to turbo. But could you swap the SOHC out to the none turbo DOHC or even the BP-T engine with the stock trany. As much as I would like to build a AWD old school protg is just not in my price range but it would be cool to have another turbo around the house so what do you think give me some feed back and ideas. This is nothing like my MSP or my turbo 2 so im open to suggestions and have all the time in the world to tinker with this new project.

lol yeah that might be hard on it but the sohc turbo is a easy project with some good room in the front for the turbo.

Can the DOHC engine take the place of the SOHC or do you have to swap the ECU. Also how far off is the BP-T from the normal NA engine. I know the DOHC makes a little more power and the SOHC only revs out to 6k to the DOHC's 7k. And the J-spec BP-T with AWD is based at 175HP. But Is there any one on here with more info.

The BP (DOHC 1.8L) will bolt in place of the the B8 (SOCH 1.8L). You'll have no issues with your existing transmssion bolting up. AFAIK, you shouldn't have any problem running the BP with the B8 ECU. My area of concern would be VICS and the distributor connection between the two (as well as the main ECU connector). However, I haven't had much opportunity to play around with the BG chassis cars enoungh to know a lot about the electrical bits.

The F-type from a BP01 (B8) will not hold on a BP. It will hardly hold a B8 much less a BP. Just ge the G-type tranny with the BP.

So the BP trany is stronger than the B8. And the B8 ecu will support the BP engine but the harness might need some work. Now the BP-T trany is not a option due to the AWD correct. The BP and BP-T don’t look that far apart. Could the turbo and turbo manifold be pulled off a BP-T and with the boost turned down be put on the higher compression none turbo BP and can the BP run the turbo set up with out a piggy back or would it need the BP-T ecu.

harness works with a wire for vics added. tranny on bp is same as the 3rd gen tranny, awd tranny wont work unless you have awd protege. bp and gtx bp are the same engine except for the knock sensor. the gtr is the one that is different. bpt ecu is the easiest way, stock ecu will handle boost but not without piggie back
