anyone else getting a slightly turbo whine from normal driving? I'm wondering if its normal or not. Its a used car I just got, I've owned other turbo vehicles, this is the first one that I can tell when the turbo really starts spinning.

for that matter, I can also hear the clutch rotating after its engaged, and I hear nothing when I put the clutch in (obviously)... anyone else hear their turbo whine (slightly metal noise to it... SLIGHT... and repetitive, definitely not a huge issue, still boosts fine, etc)

Hmmm ... ever been next to a big rig or other turbocharged diesel in traffic? Ever wonder what that whistle sound was? That's right, the turbo!

Throwout bearing. Normal for this car.

if your car has the stock intake and filter, the turbo is pretty subdued in sound, but if there is any sort of intake / filter on the car then it is much more pronounced, and completely normal.

And, yes the clutch is noisy as hell, completely normal. so is a bit of gear whine as well from my experience.

The MS3 has a quiet turbo but you may hear it whine under the right circumstances. Anyone with an intake cannot hear the turbo (any turbo whine would be masked by induction noise).

Regarding the clutch, you are actually hearing the transmission. When you depress the clutch pedal, all rotating parts in the transmission stop moving (and stop making noise).

Love the sound of my turbo spooling up, haha. "Anyone with an intake cannot hear the turbo (any turbo whine would be masked by induction noise"). Matsuda, not sure about this statement, I have a CAI, TIP and I hear my turbo all day long. ????

I think I can hear the turbo whine too. I can hear the induction noise from the intake when it begins to spool but if I step on it I hear this fine high pitch whine. I should try to record it some day.

Mine makes an enormous sucking sound from my AEM CAI (though not nearly as ridiculous as the Cobb SRI I had before) and then cha-ching! hits the Mario coin from my Forge. I love it but, I'm still immature well into my 40s....

I only hear the turbo at the point where it is just coming up on boost at about 3,000 rpm or so in a very narrow rpm range and only at very light throttle position changes. Beyond that, intake induction and exhaust noises drown it out with the MSCAI (same as Darth's AEM, just rebranded by Mazda) and with my catless dp/rp.

As to clutch noise, yes, I hear the throwout bearing "rattling" in its normal way when letting out completely on the clutch while stationary and in neutral.

You can reduce the intrusion of these sounds into the cabin with a lot of soundproofing material. But extra soundproofing = more weight = slower car.

I like light cars even if they do make noises people may not be accustomed to hearing in cars that are supposedly more "civilized" or "refined" (code: quiet inside) or that have automatic transmissions, etc.

This is a manual transmission, forced induction performance car with a light body. That's why I bought it.

"This is a manual transmission, forced induction performance car with a light body. That's why I bought it." Exactly MSMS3....

Ok guys, I don't have a camera with me but I found this video on YT of a turbo bmw that makes that sound I'm talking about. Fast forward to 7:40. When driver accelerate you can hear it. So what is that Turbo whine or induction noise?
