Hey guys, I noticed that my stock turbo is getting louder. I hear the whistling more now than before. What do guys think it is?...(dunno)

increase in backpressure from clogging up the stock cats over time? Typically when the backpressure is removed from an exhaust system the whistling decreases(mine is gone w/my exhaust) so I would imagine getting louder would work on the same principles. FYI-used Apex Downpipes are a good value for the money if you can find one thats priced right, and exhaust mods seem to make more power than any other bolt on. (catless giving the largest gains)

When I go fast, I use to hear the engine rev louder, and I hardly hear the turbo spooling or whistle. But now, me and my buddy, who has a Volkswagen 2001 Jetta 1.8 turbo ( Wolfsburg Edition ), we were having fun... racing on the street that is. When I passed him, and then we came to a stop light. He then came next to me and made a comment that my turbo whistles very loud, and never noticed it before.

before you do any modifications, take the car in to a the dealer and see what they say. you still covered under warranty?

check for any oil leaking around the turbo housing, both on from above and underneath. If so, clean it off and go for a good spirited drive and see if it comes back. Make an appointment if you see a bunch, there have been issues with oil starvation before, and it will burn out your turbo over time.

My turbo no longer whistles, it makes a shrieking noise. A friend who has some experience with DSMs said it may be my blow off valve sticking. I'm taking it into the dealer in a week for my 48000 service anyway. I'll get it checked out.

dont freak out if you see a small amount of blow by though its normal, remember a leaking bearing is a working bearing if the bearing dosent leak just a little its not getting fresh oil to all parts of the bearing
