Turbo Seal Issue

I have heard from a few people that the turbo seals on the MS6 fail, and the cars spew white smoke after about 20 minutes of idling. Who all has experienced this problem, and is there a fix for it?

Do a search.

The smoking issue is most commonly caused by people running catless downpipes and straight-thru exhaust.

I can not elaborate further, because I have not experienced the issue.

i've had it since my car was stock, after the downpipe it smokes sooner. performance is not affected though.

Buit9110 - So why not get it fixed? What makes me more curious is why do all those mods and leave it smoking? That would really get to me the first time it happened and I'd be on the phone daily for a solution. I don't care which part or how cheap/expensive, no car should blow seals and spew smoke in the first 2 years...

i agree completely. Thats why i am so curious about the issue, since i might be investing in one, and if there is no fix im not sure if i want to, because that can cause extensive damage, and with my luck, it would all fall to pieces the day my warantee ran up

mine does it. 5K on the clock, it's been at the dealer waiting for a new turbo for nearly 2 weeks. I have mazdaspeed CAI on and that's it. it did it before the CAI. anyway, the fix is a new turbo under warranty.

Why would a new turbo fix the problem if it is only the turbo seal???

I would like to see who here left there downpipe and/or test pipe in when they brought it to the dealer? Did they still fix it???

With less restriction the seals are leaking. How many stock people have had the seal problem?

I am having some major white smoke that just starting coming out today. I am wondering if I should take out the test pipe, or bring it in like it is?

Here's what my dealer replaced for my smoking issue: (check my sig for mods)

1 L3K9-13-700F -Turbocharger
1 L3k9-14-293- Gasket,Oil
1 L380-13-490B- Gasket
1 L3M6-18-8G1D Sensor,Air
2 9956-21-200 Gasket
1 L3K9-13-710 Gasket, Turbo

I'm assuming that they not only gave me a new turbo but they replaced the gaskets around the turbo as well as the o2 sensor in the DP.

The tech said that oil had blown past the exhaust side of the turbo and puddled in a small section right before the DP. As the car built up boost, the oil sat at the top of the DP and burned off when the cat heated up, causing the smoke.

I'm assuming that my o2 senor was fouled up by the oil OR the tech stripped the o2 sensor as they tried to remove the DP.

The tech said that Mazda required a step by step diagnosis which required them to remove the DP for inspection of oil residue.

Because its far less cost/labor per hour on average plus taking the risk on the seals still not on correctly. So basically, the cost for mazda is cheaper.

the risks of the seals not seating makes sense, but the cost of the turbo must be much higher than just the gaskets, no?

they probably place a higher value on customer satisfaction than cost...
are you willing to wait to have your turbos rebuilt and sit at the shop for a good length...

You are not the only one. I also wish I would have went with Subaru. I'm having surging/jerking/vibration issues while accelerating, not always, but most of the time. Acceleration is just not as smooth as it should be. It feels like something's wrong with powertrain. I went to 2 dealerships and they said everything was fine. It just bothers me and right now I think it is my first and last Mazda :(

If you went with Subaru you would have issues, but different. I have had two Subarus.

So I am bringing in my car in to the dealer on Wednesday for the "white smoke" I will update you all when I find the cause.
