i don't know if this is the right place to post this...but whatever

i've put about 850 miles on my ms3. i've had no problems except for something i noticed a couple of weeks ago that i didn't think too much of until it happened again yesterday.

on the freeway, dropping from 5th to 4th and stepping on the gas brings me up to 85-95 pretty quickly. however, at around 6000 rpms, my car jerks.

i don't know how else to describe it. it's only happened in 4th gear and it's at the top of the gear...what is going on?

does it jerk or does it drop down like the power went away?? because sometimes I notice the second you go over 6 grand the hamster inside falls dead asleep.

thats what i think it is too.
boost falls off big time by 6k.

What gas are you running.

If it's low like 87 or 89, your car might be detecting knock at high RPM and pulling timing to protect itself.

just a thought here i could be wrong but check a spark plug im wonderin if one of them is startin to go bad causing you to have a slight misfire...

Do you have any mods?

only mazdaspeed cai

but it doesn't do that in any other gear...at least not first, second or third

The dealer is going to have a hard time to confirm or deny this is happening.. i dont think they can take the car above speed limit. going to 6 grand in 4th is most likely going to do that. they can check for other probs i guess. someone tell me if im wrong

then drive it yourself and have the guy sit next to u...i would do what i can to have them witness the problem so they can fix it

so anyway...it's going to the dealer tomorrow for the recalled engine mount, so we'll see

Without a check engine light (CEL), there isn't much they can do. I brought my car in 4 times for stuttering that started around 1500 miles. After two different test drives, I managed to reproduce the problem (barely) one time. It was a 35 mile drive to the dealer and my symptoms only revealed within 20 minutes after starting the engine. The problem was cracked spark plugs, but they weren't allowed to take the TMIC off to check them without a CEL even after I took the Tech for test drives. I ended up fixing it myself, but the dealer still re-imbursed me for the defective plugs.

To get better support from the dealer, you might be lucky to get a CEL. I don't know how this can occur, but just a thought.

Good luck!

I can tell you from personal experience that the ECU stores stuff that can track down a problem, without throwing a CEL. My car read out misfires in one cylinder; it keeps count of them. The dealer saw this and replaced a plug and a coil. Keep after the dealer or find another.

took it in again...got it back
apparently the pcu cuts off fuel to eliminate harm to the engine at 5500 rpms. no harm done

any technician that relies on a scan tool to tell them what is wrong isn't a technician. That makes them a mechanic. The real test of a technician is their ability to think fluidly through system theory, and understand WHY something goes wrong, and how to fix it without throwing parts at it.

This is why I work for who I work for.
