Turbo Miles

Please state what turbo you have what psi you are running

whp if you got it dynoed,

do you have both factory cats or no cats, or one cat

and what car you have MSP, Mp3, ES, P5

and how many miles on the turbo.

And any issues you have had.

And any other mods like LSD, beefier axles.

Just want to get some data on overall reliabilty. To make my choice on.

Overall are you happy with what you paid, and the performance of the turbo system.

Does your car feel tight like when it was new. Or, because of the turbo the car really doesn't feel tight any more. You wish you hadn't bought a turbo.

i'm in the same boat as you...getting info about turbocharging my car. i have found all of the information that you asked for by doing a search and reading through the posts. when you've finished that, get a copy of Maximum Boost by Corky Bell, read it, then start talking to turbo manufacturers to get specifics. just a suggestion. ps...reading through all those posts will give you lots of other information that you didn't ask for as well...so you can make an educated decision. good luck!

Doggone, please don't take this the wrong way.....but so many people in this forum has put a lot of work into posting results and offering points of information that covers all of the questions you are asking..

I can appreciate that you want info to make your decisions...but you should really take advantage of reviewing old posts. Can you imagine what this forum would be like.....if each person who started to gain interest in a turbo system posted the same questions.... everytime.

Please please do not take this as a flame.... as responses to you numerous questions will not get you the information you need to make such an important decision.... and I want you to have the right information.

I know what you are saying. But it would be easier if everyone would just answer the questions.

For me to go through all the posts and figure out who has got what. Would take forever.

Most of the people do not say how many miles they have on there turbo's.

Well, if no one wants to answer the questions. Thats what I will do. But, if I have an issue that could help someone, I will just say do a search.

Heres what I conclude for putting a turbo on a protege from reading all the posts.

Everyone that bought a Protege bought it because it is a well built vehicle, that it will be reliable for years and years. We all new that it only had 130hp at the flywheel. We wanted that good gas mileage in a commuter vehicle. But, the car looks good like an Audi or something like that. Put some nice wheels on it, a body kit and tinted windows, and it is one of the best looking vehicles on the road.

Now for me to spend 3500-3900 US which comes to 4800 CAN on a Turbo system. I want no problems. NO, oil leaks, coolant leaks, blown engine, white smoke, black smoke, not being able to tune it properly, bad idle, broken manifold studs, not passing emissions(does anyone really know), need to upgrade axles, LSD, maybe internals(does anyone really know).

There is to much doubt in the reliablity right now. OR, you need to always check and make sure that every thing is OK on a daily basis. Then it really doesn't become a no touch vehicle any longer. And that is why I bought it in the first place.

So, I will just rev it high, that's where the fun is. And by a new '05 Mustang SVT which will be a '69 retro style to sink my foot into.

essential speed kit, 40K+ on it If you dont wanna be under the hood of the car though there really isn't much of a point in doping something like adding a turbocharger to the car. Yeah the systems are pretty much put in and no more touching the car. You have to take a lot better care of your car and maintenace is really the key. that and a good install.

* Bell Engineering Turbo (The Flyin' Protege Prototype) @ 6 psi
* ~165 to 170 wheel horsepower (stock = 94 wheel hp)
* Currently have both catalytic convertors
* 2002 Protege5, five speed
* over 20,000 miles on the turbo kit
* destroyed first engine BECAUSE I WAS DUMB NOT BECAUSE OF TURBO :D
* Other mods? Read my sig :) pertinent ones are the flywheel and clutch
* Car pulls very smooth and very strong all the way to redline

What else do you want to know? Myself, LinuxRacr, 1st MP3 in NH, PortCityMP3, 02p5, we all have this kit as well as a few others here. PM Keith@FP and he will tell you anything you want to know.
