Buying Advice for 2014 CX-5 254K Miles?

No way I'd trust my daughter in a car with a quarter million miles on it. Breakdown waiting to happen. Pass.
wlong01, I bought a 267K mile, 2006 Lexus RX330 for my oldest daughter to go to college in back in 2019. It was owned by a retired Navy code breaker and had meticulous maintenance so I had no qualms about buying it. It only left her stranded in town twice for a broken CV axle from where i think she hit something and the thermostat housing split. So, I'm not adverse to buying high mileage cars. I will say though the Lexus has cost us $9100 in repairs since 2019! So that is like another $100 buck a month on repairs. However, it was a 13 year old car when I bought it and main seals dry out and leak, valve cover gaskets leak, coil packs and plugs need replacing struts need replacing, catalytic converters go out(that was expensive), timing belt had to be replaced, etc. I'm not so scared of a younger high mileage car as I am a high mileage older car. Even on that Lexus, stuff was just old and getting brittle and wearing out from age. My daughter still drives it with 320K miles! Got a cx-9 with 248K miles as well.

Why are you so fixated on Mazda and SUVs only?
plenty of sedans choices.
cz5gt, my daughters have driven nothing but CUV's and they and i like the higher driving position. Both are close to 6 foot tall so getting in an out of a CUV is much easier than crawling out of a car. Might consider a Camry 2.5 or Venza 2.7 or RAV4 2.5 or lower mileage CX-5. Also, my daughters are "Givers". They volunteer and help lots of various organizations and are always seem to be hauling supplies and other large loads due to school, civic groups, etc so a CUV is just a better fit for us.
