If you're really diligent about changing the oil, and can stand the noise, it'll be fine. But I think if we're all honest, most of us will never keep up the oil change intervals needed. Yes, a alternative is a beefier tooth profile and less aggressive helix angle, but the thing is...even PAR flat out won't make helical cut gears anymore for turbo & large displacement cars due to the high axial load they put on the shafts, case, and bearings. A less aggressive helix would help though. When I had my 1-5th straight cut set, it was cool for a while, the noise, but 99% of people just thought the tranny was broken, not custom. It's a toss up really, do you want : A quiet car, less maintenance duty, less $ spent and a limit on the trannys strength OR A loud car, high maintenance, more $ spent, but a high strength tranny ?
