Trans swap?

Alright so I think I've got a broken diff but I'm not 100% sure. My girlfriend was driving the car and went to pull away from a light and got about a hundred yards and the car revved up and stopped moving. I went down there and towed it home. If I rev and dump the clutch it will rock a little bit and if I have the car jacked up it will spinm the tires like normal but I can press a bar against the tire and stop it. AKA pressure on the wheel no-go freespin it does fine. Both wheels do the same. So I'm thinking LSD. My other question is that if it is the LSD I have a stock 03 Protege ES with a five-speed that I bought as a parts car. I was contemplating swapping the trans over into my MSP for now. I know the diff is a little weaker but I got 150K out of the weak factory MSP diff, I don't have the money for the Mfactory right now and I could really use the car just to go to and from work. Anyone done this with any success even if just for a couple of months?

the transmissions are the same minus the diff of course and I believe the synchros are different. Im not 100% sure on that though. But other than that, they are exactly the same. So durability depends mainly on the overall condition of it and how it was taken care of before.

Cool I'm torn between putting a head on my parts car since the engine is sludged up (previous owner didn't believe in oil changes and it caused the cams to lock up.) and trying the ES trans in my MSP.

The trans will hold up fine I would be surprised if you blew up a regular protege tranny unless you are pushing 300whp. It does sound like your LSD broke, mine chipped a tooth when the reverse lockout grenaded itself but the diff itself never actually failed.

I thought the MSP trannies were suppossed to be stronger that the Regular protege trans? This car is stock. I've done a couple of appearance mods and a cone filter but thats it. Cool as soon as I have time I'm going to start this. I miss my MSP

Trans is the same minus the LSD, 03.5 has a 'revised' shift fork but just like the motor basically the exact same trans minus the speedo sensor.
