Torque

Mmmm, nope. Not 20ft/lbs. Not at all. You won't be gaining any torque, either. You'll be freeing it up, and I'm sure it wouldn't be very substantial, honestly. That, and steering at low (parking lot manuver) speed will be a b**** in comparison, as well as, well... No AC. Not that I care about AC, but it seems like the gain wouldn't be worth it.

You might be right about my estimate, I'm not really sure because I didn't remove my power steering or A/C pulleys. I still feel that you will benefit with less pulleys because my buddy's at Motion Performance are running big hp motors, and I've observed on numerous occasions that they run one belt for the underdrive to alternator. That's all. An old friend that doesn't work there anymore(back to school) did remove those pulleys from his civic and he told me that it really will help. I believe him because of the gains my car has made from some lightened pulleys alone, I think that less parasitic loss will free a little engine to work easier, it just makes sense to me. But that's my opinion. I have an open mind to learn otherwise if there enough proof. Later guys!

On old-assed American cars, there's more power to been seen in removing the accesories because they're extremely inefficient. On small Japanese cars, you may see 5hp from removing both PS and AC.

thats kinda not worth losing my valuable comforts lol

Try stearing with something like Azenis while under heavy braking. I tried it...I couldn't turn the wheel. I'm weak, but even if I had decent upperbody strength it wouldn't have been any fun. If you have an aggresively lowered car like I did it makes the bumpsteer horrible.

With the A/C removal, the only thing you are really gaining from is the weight reduction. Unless the A/C coompressor is on the pulley just idles and the drag is negligable.

True...when the compressor is disengaged, there is very little load on the engine itself...just a slight chunk of belt tension, which barely adds anything as far as parasitic losses...

so...if you want to free up a dismal bit of power...keep the A/C turned off...if you want to lose ~50 +lbs, get rid of it all together...but getting rid of it will give you maybe .5whp compared to just having the A/C off...

i don't think the AC even weighs that much...justin removed his and IIRC, it was less than 25 lbs. i know i was surprised that it was a lot less than i expected.

I got a question for you N/A guys. Why(at least from what I know) hasn't anybody gone with a compression ratio of like 11.1:1 or something for the N/A build with at least a MPI unit? I see that SpicyMc is running like 10(something):1 with the MPI but nobody is running more. Wouldn't there be huge gains with cams, cam gears, PCM, high comp pistons, and bore(maybe shorter stroke too)? just some questions as I am trying to learn stuff and whatnot.

Install is, actually. Well, running is a bit strong of a word, I suppose. =) He doesn't have the car together yet, I don't think, but he's made some pretty crazy power with the FS, a crazy redline, and crazier compression. =)

Once mine's all built up, I'll probably be landing in 11 - 11.5:1 range... I'm kinda undecided to that.

He (Installshield) really did sum it up properly; We need engine managment. That's the only way we're going to eek on much more than a few horsepower even from the most substantial of mechanical changes to the engine itself. Tuning is really the key.

I think it was around 22lbs. I've heard that every 10lbs you can remove from the car is worth 1 HP. Doesn't seem like much, but I've dropped almost 150 lbs from my car.

Stickers, lots of them! lol. Some of you guys crack me up! I did take the A/C and power steering belt off to compare and I found that it was freakin hard to turn the freakin wheel to back the little car (my p5) out of my parking stall! Holy crap! Man I work out like 4 days a week, unbelieveable! I backed up 15 ft then drove ahead 15 ft to re-install the crap I took apart! My conclusion: don't bother trying to sacrifice you p/s for like 2hp or whatever man. Unless you want you arms an shoulders bigger than your head! Oh well. Later guys!

yeah, I dont beleive(at least for me) reamoval of the power steering is worth it unless you do some sort of closed course racing. My daily driver when I go to Europe is a early 90's Renault Clio and it has a pain in the ass cable clutch(where you get to a certain point and it basically tosses your hole leg back if you're not used to it) and no power steering, and it is like heaven when I get into a car with power steering. Also, I figure i go to the gym during the week for a workout, I dont need more of a workout in my car.

I've had my power steering off for 2 years. Never looked back. Ya, it's stiff in a parking lot, but I'm a big guy(6'2", 330lb type big. I would have beat Andrews times if a little guy was driving!), so it's no problem. But I wouldn't trade the road feel more than anything. The power steering fluid is quite a vibration damper. Some people wouldn't like to feel everything through the steering wheel, but I love it.

And you get more than you think from removing accesories...
