To All Running 9-10 PSI

Hello. I would like to know what luck you guys have had whom are running their MSP at 9 to 10 PSI on a stock air box and exhaust. What are the negatives, possitives of running this boost pressure? Thank you very much!!!
 
Well I'm running about 9-10 psi with spikes at 11psi, so far the positives are that the car scares the crap out of me by how fast it is, so far the negatives are none, but it's only been maybe 100 miles. I am also running the FCD and the FPR from Joe P so my car doesn't hesitate at all and also I have never once hit fuel cut. I always run preminum gas, and in about 2-3 days I'll be running a degree colder plug, just in case, want to avoid problems.

What kind of plugs will you be getting? I was gonna order a set of Sparkco wires and was thinking of getting the combo with the platinum plugs or whatever they are.

no, you dont want to get platinum... that wouldnt be colder.. get some NHK copper ones.. but make sure that you get colder ones.. the number for them is BKR7E 6097
 
To ALL that are boosting more than stock!

Check your PCV valves. Mine was spitting oil! I changed it to the 323 GTX PCV Valve, as it is meant to handle boost.

The stock valve is good to about 8 psi. After that it will leak oil all over the passenger side front part of your valve cover.

Keep an eye on it, and order your 323 GTX PCV valve from your local Mazda Dealer today!

I think you mean NGK not NHK.

What does the GTX PCV Valve do w/ that oil that is getting forced up into the valve?

Sorry for the noob question, just curious.
 
Hmm, interesting note about the PCV valve, Dave. Thanks, I hadn't thouoght of that, but it makes sense.

Yeah! I am wondering about that too.....I am running 9.5-10 psi. This is the first I have heard of the PCV (postive crankcase ventilation) valve being a situation. :eek:

And; as far as other mods; K&N filter, and I'm using stock spark plugs.
 
I just got autolite step colder plugs at my local auto performance store. its part 3923 i believe from autolite.
 
im getting ngk colder plugs i have injen cai 4guage ground kit greddy type s bov turbo timer and profec b spec II boost controller. and i have no problems also have joep's reducer and its running sweet no problems.
 
I am running 9psi with spikes to 12. No problems so far, I will be changing the plugs though.
Positives - 14.2 @ 99.8 = 229 whp
Negatives - power corrupts, I want more.

So; do most of you believe it is necessary to change to colder plugs when boosting to 9-10 psi?

I think yes. I have colder plug , only 1 bit more colder. BKR6E, stock is the BKR5E.

And I run with a 94 octane, FPR kit, and I wait for my Injen. I don't have any problems.......
 
According to the manual, the stock plugs are platinum, heat range 6 (P..6..). According to NGK, the BKR7E plugs are the correct plug to use if you want to change to copper and one heat range colder.

DO NOT use those plugs from Sparcko, they suck for our application, i have lost top end power and have been backfiring
 
The PCV Valve was introduced into normal production on passenger cars in 1963 as a part of a Governmental push to reduce exhaust emissions from passenger cars. It's job is to relieve positive air pressure from the crank case, pull fumes from the crank case to be re-burned, and to keep fresh air flowing inside the engine.

As Mazda never intended for this engine to see boost. We are now experiencing ALL the side effects of a "bolt-on" turbo kit.
The stock PCV valve is meant to operate under N/A conditions meaning it will relieve pressure just fine at a certain CFM. Now introduce more CFM and this valve will experience Corrosion and "blow-by"(relative term). Oil is moving much faster (higher) and a gases are much hotter. This will lower the life of the valve by clogging and corrosion. In turn oil and other gummy formations will find their way through this valve and onto the valve cover. (It is very easy to see). The 323 GTX was a "true" factory turbo car. They engineered the parts to accomodate the extra air and temperatures. Thus the fact that my newly acquired PCV valve is working just fine and I have once again replaced an OEM MazdaSpeed part to make tha car more reliable.

There are many more parts I have replaced and I will continue to replace anything that I see as needing replacement.

I will NOT use my warranty for any of this as none of it is covered.
Mazda will only replace with the same part. Which I find to be completely useless.
