Thule Cargo box installed

Finally - Our CX-9 is Cargo Ready

Very happy owner of a 2008 Mazda CX-9 Grand Touring - Silver with Black Leather!

After the rescue of a Weimaraner all our cargo space is gone! - Well worth it (most days - lol).

So my Wife and I with 2 kids and a dog needed to add some storage up top.

Thanks for the advice on this board! - I weighed heavily the Thule Crossroads or the Mont Blanc Aero Set Up. Two members in particular really helped ( ----> CX9 SportOwner (insight all over) and bill42 (photos))

Here is what I did:
1st Get the Factory Roof Rails purchased them from a dealer for $185.

Then got the Thule 45050 Cross Road Complete Roof Rack System with 50 Load Bars and Locks for $208

Added a Thule Thule Atlantis 1600 XT Roof Box - $450.

So all said and Done - $843! - I think that is pretty good!

I wanted to thank everyone who posts on here for their advice and thoughts. It made the decision much easier.

My one concern lies with the Factory Roof Rails - 8 metal screws??? that is it.

Some links for those looking at boxes for their cX-9

I've got a Yakima Skybox that I mount on the MontBlanc Aeros. Nothing to complain about. A little bit of wind noise but it's actually quieter than the MontBlancs alone. Not so easy to load the box. Can stand on the rear wheel which gets you up pretty high. Doesn't really work for reaching the front of the box though. With the factory crossbars the box might sit a couple inches lower but not a big deal.

I think you're taking a huge risk by using the factory roof rack. I'm sure they weren't really meant for holding that much weight. Yeah, you've made a couple of successful trips without incident, but in my opinion you're playing with fire.
