About two months ago I made a trip to NC to the dragons tail with a friend of mine who has an EVO. It was kinda cool to see a bunch of EVO's playing together like a sandbox. I was toying around with the idea of getting a bunch of us together to go to the tail of the dragon. I would love to see some of the other P5's and get some ideas on what to do with mine. It's all stock other than the stereo. I have alot of information about different areas to stay in and so fourth. I know when we went it was peak season and for a two bedroom cabin with kitchen/full bath/ etc it was like $120 a night. Anyone interested post post post so I can get an idea if this is a flop or a POP!!!!!

PM me if you want details where I stayed and so fourth.

For those of you that don't know. The tail of the dragon consists of three major roads of total fun. The road that is world known is Deals gap. 11 miles 311 turns with killer banking and grip. They have the hellbender which is more of a get up some speed and hold on. The Skyway is more of a cruise run and great for pictures.

I have been there 3 times and would go every other weekend if I could...

Dude, Deal's Gap is just 129, from TN, after the bridge, till NC at the store, it is not 3 roads. Hellbender and all those have different names.

I used to work at the Deal's Gap resort....

Anyways, there's already a thread in the TN section about a TOTD trip.

FYI: There are 318 curves in 11 miles of the Tail of the Dragon...I was just there. www.tailofthedragon.com

So my numbers were off.. I'll make a revision... A crap load of turns in a very short distance. Anyway, still a fun fun happy time....

It was an awesome fun time when we went. :) The P5 LOVED it. She can't wait to go again!

She got her Dragon sticker after she completed the run three times that day.

Carolinamazdas group are going to the gap labor day weekend and my P5 will also be going to the Gap.

The gap eats tires.

Make sure your tires are looking good, and check out your brakes too.

Also, we've been having really saturated, and very strict, state police enforcement on the peak hours during weekends.

You're best bet is to go in the mornings, afternoons, and during the week, to avoid any LEO encounters.

With the fame of this deals gap among car/bike enthusiasts, I'm surprised there aren't cops sitting around the corners.

now there are.

Just a few summers ago you could make back to back 10 min runs (on a bike of course) and not have a single lane crosser, cop, semi, etc. etc. get in the way or slow you down.

Now it's just crazy. I was having to put passes on about 40 people through the gap on the run back to TN to get home after work.

The day before we got to drive it, they had a semi turn over towards the end of the Tail. When we got there, they told us it would be closed for 10 hours to clean it up. We went up the next day. As I was driving, I had a guy on a GSX-R come 2 feet over the DOUBLE YELLOW line, into my lane leaning into the curve as I was coming around the curve. Scared the crap outta me. I thought he was a goner. I hit my brakes and he pulled it up and managed to get out of the way. Kept me jittery for the next couple of curves and then I was able to get into it.

My hubby has gone there the last two Summers with his YZF600 forums group. They have a meet up at the Iron Horse & then ride the Tail a few times as well as the Skyway and up to Fontana Dam. He always has a lot of fun.

Gettin dangerous now with all the idiots that hear about "the dragon", and come to ride it..

Guys on sportbikes/in sports cars with something to prove.

To whom I have no clue. Cause they were still getting passed by me, lol.

That is just ridiculous. I see their tourism dropping a bit for being such ass wipes.

It wouldn't be so bad if they weren't harassing everyone, and policing on "real" infractions, ie. excessive speeding, crossing lanes, illegal passes, etc.

Very true. You really want them out there when people are making bad decisions that interfere with our enjoyment of it. But they seem to be cracking down on everyone and everything.
