Throttle System/Brake System

Awww damn...what kind of screw. do I have to replace the whole throttle body for that screw?

Im not sure on what kind of screw it is, Ive never taken it out. Best bet is to hit up a local junkyard and take the screw out of it. Or hit Preferio up for one of his

$40 shipped to you. If you can't find what you need, let me know.

If u back out that screw your rpm's will slightly increase if you tighten it your rpm's will decrease if its to loose itl probably come out by itself like mine did...I got one at a junk yard for free from a 626 I think it was

there is only two hoses that go to our throttle body and they are both coolant lines. If you have a vacuum leak coming from the throttle body, it is going to be from the gasket between the throttle body and the manifold. Let the car idle and spray some carb cleaner around the gasket area and see if the idle changes. Does the car idle roughly? Have a boost gauge, if so, what is your vac like? Here are some pics of the throttle body:

dont mean to come off as a thread jacker here but i am experiencing something just like this noise you are describing.. I thought i could hear a air leak (whistle) noise on acceleration for awhile now. so today i made a boost leak tester and went to town. after testing i found all my hardpipes were leak free but heard something around my intake manifold that made me worry because i had p&p the IM last year and thought maybe i had some lose bolts. i put my hand back there trying to feel for an air leak somewhere and noticed when i grabbed the throttle body the noise would change (get louder and quieter). the piece i was grabbing and wiggling was the little spring piece that the throttle cable connects to. has anyone heard of leaks coming from there? maybe the little bushings inside wear out? would replacing the tb be a wise idea in this case?

i recently had my turbo go on me so i got a gt28rs, corksport dp, and a new mishimoto rad. when i put the turbo on i guess my wastegate got stuck open and i was over boosting like a mad man. fixed that, car boosted fine (but had a serious lack of power) so i was wondering if i had a boost leak. changed my boost controller from setting "a" to setting "b" and then all the sudden my car was hauling the most ass it had ever hauled before, BUT i would hit what felt like fuel cut but a little less aggressive (if that makes sense). so after 2 days of loving my car more then ever i was showing off a bit for my boss and when i fit full boost of around 10 psi and 5500 rpm i went to grab 2nd and heard a load pop (like a back fire) and a little cloud of black smoke and then all the sudden i had three codes pop up. p0102 (MAF low input, p0103 (MAF high output, and p2009 (IM low voltage bank 1 or something) any ideas or help would be awesome.

When you grabbed the 'spring' for the linkage, are you sure you weren't grabbing around that screw?...meaning the screw this thread was originally about...

the thread starter's problem was a missing AAS screw...its a small phillips screw that adjusts the IAC by pass porting of the TB...with a jumper wire, you can use this screw to adjust idle speed...without jumping the computer, you don't change idle speed...but you do change idle vacuum, and and how the IAC steps around the by pass to control idle speed...

so i guess the real question is if your TB still has that screw in place...if it doesn't, your hand being anywhere near it will change its vacuum...so you may have thought it was reaching near the linkage, but really was that port where the screw goes...without the screw, its just a vent for unmetered air...i.e. a vacuum leak...

but all your codes are maf related...so i'm not really sure what you're up against...for the record, i've yet to hear of an actual TB plate armature developing a leak...i guess it could happen, but i bet your problem is something else...

There were a few guys a while back that kept having boost leaks right at the rod for the throttle plate. If you put some soapy water on there and hook up a boost tester you should be able tell pretty easily. If so you will probably just have to replace the whole tb. It's possible to have it drilled and sleeve inserted but I don't know of anyone who does that.

thanks sport23, thats what i was looking to hear. i dont think im missing a screw although i will go out and check. i didnt feel any air leaks and its a slow leak when i presure it up with the tester, so it has to be a very small place its coming from. i grabbed the whole spring/throttle cable piece with my hand and when i was wiggling it i could hear the air leak changing sounds. so im pretty sure its the throttle plate rod :)

can anyone tell me if we have the same throttle body as the p5? if so its a pretty cheap fix from an auto wrecker.

Yup all 01+ Proteges with the 2.0L have the same throttle body. The 626 with the FS engine looks like the same throttle body too (earlier revision code but I can see and significant difference.) Also the 99-00 Protege withe the 1.8L FP motor should have the same throttle body too.

for the tb from the auto wrecker for 35 bucks. just have to swap over my iac cus the clip for the connector is broken on this one.
