Thoughts on 2022 CX-5 mud flaps?

Are they really needed for everyday driving, including snow, etc.?

It looks to me, at least on the 2022 Premium Plus, that the tires sit a pretty fair amount inside all four wheel wells.

Thoughts?

Do other years vary in tire protrusion betting the wheel wells?

The front ones may help with throwing mud and possibly stones onto the sides of your car. The rears are just for looks IMO.

I have always had mud flaps fitted to all my Mazdas to protect against dirt and stone chips.
The rear mud flaps also keep the bottom sides of the rear bumper cleaner.

I live in snow country and normally have always put some OEM mud guards on but when I bought my CX5 I decided to see how it went without and I am surprised that I have not needed them. I have a CX5 turbo but I get no slop thrown up from the tires.

I bet they do help. Even with the stock inset wheels, the doors still manage to catch junk.

driving in this don't really get anything on the doors.

Just wait until it all melts.
I have been driving the CX in this for 2 years...I was very pleasantly surprised that the cx5 did not need them. this my Cx's second winter and my wife drives it daily and it does not need them. heck I just returned from a 2400 mile road trip through Montana, North Dakota and Minnesota and anyone who lives in those areas knows end of December is winter time....

Every time I drive in the rain I have road splatter on the sides of the car. And that was before the new wheels. Not sure how you're avoiding that.

I have not washed it during or since my road trip and probably 3000 miles of winter roads. My wife drives it to work and often unplowed to work. this is the road to my driveway. I just went and took the photos.

Don't get me wrong if a person wants mud guards they should get them, I just have not felt the need on my mazda.
