Thoughts about wheel upgrades

Love the wheels Akira.

My rim shop told me the widest rims that can be put on the CX5 are 9, offset is +35 to +42. Tires 245

I'm looking for rims right now, just not sure if I'm going with 20's or 22's.

Im looking for a nice visual effect, I'm just worried I wont see much difference going from 19' to 20'.

The wheels on that fx are 22'.
I also agree with you; idk about seeing much of a differaence with 19 to 20'.
Im now considering 22's and with a 9width. It will be an eye catcher.

Another good option might be 21's , the only ones I found for a decent price are Lorenzo wl28.

207$/rim at wheelsnext.com, they are chrome the black ones go for 293$, they are 8.5

That might also be a good compromise.

the black ones are nice, it be nicier if the spokes were a bit wider.

I dont really dig 5 spoke wheels when they are so big. way to much open space to see that tiny roter and caliper ;)

...and I absolutely don't dig 22" wheels to ride in these atrocious roads of Quebec Province! :)

Mesh is cool, but usually best on luxury sport sedans.

Also, for those going with 19's or 20's and wanting it to look large diameter as possible, go with wheels that don't have lips.

unless you go for those bling bling cadillac wheels ALL the wheels will make the brakesets look tinny even the mesh...and they are. ;)

You guys are crazy to put 22" wheels on this thing. It already doesn't have tons of power....why sap even more of it? Plus you'll drop the MPG on a car that is designed to sip fuel.

I'm trying to decide between 18" and 20". I typically put on a lot of miles, so I'm buying tires pretty much annually. I want the 20s, cause no doubt they would look nice. But 18s will be lighter, cheaper, and a 55 series 18 surely would be a smoother ride than a 45 series 20. Plus, the 18" tires are much cheaper, with a lot more options. 19 and 20 doesn't give you much for tire selection.... that's the main reason I will probably just do 18's.

What to do, what to do.....

btw, no way I would put 22" hoops on a cx5. lol

So I went shopping for rims today, Might taught was to put 20's and look into dropping it with the HRsprings to get rid of a little wheel gap.

Some guy at the shop today came in and traded some 22's, so I wanted to see what the would look like on the car, As you can see from the pics I did not mount them, just had they shop guy pose them beside the car just to get an idea.

Here are some pics. In my head the debate is over definitely going with 22's I know its not everybody that may agree with this descision, but for me this is what will give me the look I'm looking for.

Those are not the wheels I will be going with but just to give an idea.

I like the idea of 22's.
Its an suv not a car.
I can't wait to see what wheels you put on.

I hope to drop my car before July hits and 22's next year spring time.
Little by little for me.

Akira, as soon as I order my rims ill let you know, I plan on lowering too in the future, just wanna see what the wheel gap will look like.

For me too its little by little, but I figured I would get the most expensive mod out the way 1st.

On the same side cant wait to see what a drop will look like.

Out of curiosity... have you ever spent a lot of time driving a car with 22s?

If not, I suspect your next thread will be titled "Help.. my car is loud on the highway and rides like crap"

I just mention it because at the dealer I work at... this crap happens many times. Some dumbass buys an Impala or Lincoln LS, throws 22s on it, then brings it back in their warranty period because they think a wheel bearing is going out(hand) Nevermind the fact that it happens as soon as wheels/tires are changed.

And just so it's clear, 22s will NOT handle better or do ANYTHING better aside from look good. More weight is bad. Getting rid of sidewall only makes it feel a bit more responsive, but lap times will show that feels vs actually performing better are two different things.

Then there's the whole cost of tires thing. There is no statistically good reason to go with larger wheels... but I do realize sometimes you just want what you want so if it makes you happy despite the fact it's going to be the worst riding CX-5 on the road, then have at it. It will grab every road imperfection and want to pull depending on the road surface... it's a characteristic of low profile tires and it sucks on really crappy roads.

If it were mine, I'd go 17s if possible with some decent all terrain tires.

Flatlander937 I get your point and it does make total sense, I'm not going with 22's for any kind of performance mod, pure looks.

Where I dont agree is comparing it to impalas or Lincoln's, for you to fit 22's on a car you need to go with a ridiculously low profile tire, this is not the case with an SUV/CUV.

Are you saying that everybody that buys an Escalade with stock 22's returns that too?
