Thinking of buying a new P5 - have questions ...

Sorry all. Thanks for your help and support, but I decided to buy a 1.8T Jetta. A little more money, but a LOT more car. Hauls ASS - compared to the P5. Has 180hp stock, and just a chip takes it to 230. High level of refinement. Plus, there is a HUGE aftermarket of performance goodies for this car. I just couldn't get past the low power thing on the P5. My other car is a 350hp 347 stroker Fox Mustang. I need a certain minimum amount of power to be happy. It's a shame. I REALLY liked EVERYTHING else about the P5. It just needs more guts for me to plunk down my cash. Thanks again for all your help.

Well... I guess everything is a matter of perspective. The Jetta GLS 1.8T is priced approximately $3k over the MP5... you get what you pay for. Good luck, and congrats on the new car!

About that Jetta 1.8T

Hey Man,

Like some others on here, I wish you luck with your new ride! They are quick and put together fairly well...but Ive owned recent VW's and I have two buddies with 1.8T Jettas.(a 2001 and 2002)...Some advice for ya''''......Be careful about the power windows,,,,they are known for falling into the doors on many a new Jetta...VW has some kind of recall pending on all the door windows (front doors and rear, but the front doors have been known to be more troublesome)...If yours starts to act up,,,,demand new parts and not parts off of another car sitting in the lot....I know of some VW dealers doing that....Second,,,go easy on your transmission shifting the first 1000 miles,,,that is a tricky cable system of some kind and my buddy Chris drives pretty hard and the dang thing fell into the console at 2000 miles. Had to wait two weeks for parts....But I still think part of it if not all, had to do with his driving style...But if you drive hard,,,,go easy on it....Second,,,VW is still having a bunch of troubles with their "oxygen sensor/check engine lights" coming on all the time....Again,,,,this is another pending recall on VW's part and demand new parts and not parts off of cars sitting in the lots....One more thing,,,,do yourself a favor and have your speedometer calibrated....VW sets them wrong to protect themselves against "speeding ticket lawsuits''...so they set them to read faster than you are actually going....I think that is about it.....Sorry about all this,,,but you bought the VW and I felt you should know.....

Something about Jettas....

I have known a few friends who drive Jettas, all except 2(5 out of 7) have experienced problems with transmissions, one actually got so serious, he had to return the car (not sure how he did it thogh), Jettas are nice, but their reliablity is crappy. I don't think I personally will spend that $$ on a Jetta.
