The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

I like to see something different. I understand there are a million choices for LS combos, but they don't exactly excite me most of the time. It's nice to see big bore v8 sometimes. They may not have the revs, but they have the torque on idle. I also have a soft spot for top mount blowers.

Also, Nelson Racing Engine's mirror twin turbos always give me chills.

I'm a fan of EFI throttle bodies made to replace stock carbs. Like someone said it looks natural under the hood but you get the benefits of modern EFI. Sorry, any way you cut it an EFI system is going to be better than a carb. Resto -> carb, Resto-mod -> EFI replacement, Custom/Racecar/etc. -> ITBs.

I don't mind the LSx engine as long as it's an aluminum block (i.e. and engine from the last decade). I hate seeing people drop an iron block with iron heads in a modern car. Really dislike the Toyota I6 blocks though. Too tall, too big, and too heavy. I like seeing swaps with modern, quad-cam V6s and V8s.

It would be cool to see a wild V6 ecoboost in an old ford chasis, Maybe even a ranchero, perhaps a mustang, just to be different.

I don't know why everyone is complaining about the new F1 engines. The old sounds were great, the new ones are great too, just different. The technology in the new engines is very impressive.

I do miss the theatre of the old F1 engines but, that's not what irks me. I know that there is a tremendous amount of skill required to wrestle an F1 car. The thing is that the new technology has made it too easy for them. Think back to when the cars didn't have as much down force or driver aids or flappy paddle gear shifts. Such as the era when Senna was competing and even earlier than that. My thing is recalling from the documentary about Senna when he finished one race and his muscles were locked up. You don't see drivers exert themselves like that anymore. (end rant)

Great season thus far though. No complaints about the engines since they really are technological master pieces.

The new power units couple with the new aero regs have made the cars much harder to drive than last year. Overall the cars have less front (narrower front wings to name one thing) and rear downforce (no more coanda exhausts), plus the engines produce massive torque compared to last year and when coupled with the harder Pirelli rubber makes it extremely difficult to get power down. You can see/hear the guys struggling to get the power down on medium to slow speed corner exits.

I do realize that the new regulations have made the changes with down force and tires. Tremendous engines. There's just a lack of theatre. I've seen people say that if you don't like the new engines you're not a Formula 1 fan. Not true. It's just such a drastic change that it will take time to get use to.

This isn't the race I'm talking about but it is amazing footage.

+1, I just don't get it when people do an iron block ls swap.

'32 deuce coupe would be my choice :)

Should have made an option with a blower. Roots style blowers like you pictured look great.

The wife showed up at lunch with our son, which was fun to go out to lunch. Other than that, its working on a project as well as extinguishing fires on related projects.

Deflooded the wife's 8 (my fault this time) and clay barred the Miata. No more overspray!

Does the 8 not have the deflood sequence the S5 FC's have? Hold the gas pedal down and start, let off when it catches?

Something similar, however it has never worked for me. I pull the plugs (3-4 times), clean/dry them and blow out the engine with them removed.

Work rant:

This really irritates me. Autodesk has what they call a "batch converter" as part of AutoCAD. When you go into it, you can grab an entire folder, pick the cad files, and convert them to another file, in another folder with a prefix and or suffix. There is a spot for "save as file type: and it shows 5 version of DWG ad 5 versions of DXF. If it's not going to work with converting to DXF's, why the hell do they have it as an option. I go mass convert a project, they pop up as DWG files. WTF!

I have a feeling that today is going to be an interesting day. Just got comments back on a document that I created, from the customer who I think gets paid for each comment they make (tho they have no operating experience). I'm probably going to want to drive to Chicago and smack these fuckers.
