The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Jeff are you coming to LRP?

Still on the fence.....just posted up some camping questions in the Corral thread. I'm clueless when it comes to camping and trying to figure out the logistics and such so I know what to buy, etc. Maybe you can help or others who have camped can chime in?

In other news, I received the appointment for biometrics (fingerprint and picture) for my naturalization application for next Friday. At this rate, I'll be a citizen by October.

Woot!

my avatar is a piece of "corporate art" that hangs on the wall outside my old manager's office. it's titled "Warm Regards" by Kaws and is basically a pile of poop with hands and feet.

I think its hilarious that we have that hanging on the wall in our office, and have actually gone so far as to try and find prints of the piece (unsuccessfully - although they did manufacture fake ice cream bars...)

One could build an entire Miata just out of aftermarket parts. Superior platform is superior! :D

I had those on the silver P5 and Ivan is buying them this fall. They were great in the snow. I can't compare them to other snow tires since they were my first/only set to date. But I loves them.

ive been rocking the General Altimax Arctic/Gislaved NordFrost tires...

friggin beasts in the snow and still 50 bucks cheaper than the "on sale" Bridgestones

first set were 205-55-16 and lasted 7 winters between me and the previous owner(i bought used wheels and tires for winter)
the second set i bought are 225-55-16 (i know all about skinny tires in winter s*** blah blah blah but i bought this set for less than 200 for all 4 tires with less than 500 miles on them)
even with the larger size this will be winter 3 with them and they still look damn near new, not to mention they are still monsters in the snow... after the experience ive had with these snow tires, i can honestly say i cant justify spending more money for a "bigger name" set of snow tires

the only knock on them is they are only speed rated for like 95mph... doesnt bother me one bit, but some of the speed demons in this thread might not like being limited to 95mph hahahaha :P

lol, I don't hit above 80 on summer tires so that shouldn't be a problem. There's not much in the 195/55/16 selection

Ugh snow tires... I'd like winter a lot more if winter was only 1-2 months.

I was using Michelin X-Ice. I got 4 seasons and 40k miles out of them. Admittedly they probably shouldn't of been used last winter but luckily it was a mild one anyways. I was stupid and got a set of 18" wheels so winter tires are expensive. :(

Despite the fact we get snow here, I don't think we get it bad enough to justify dedicated winter tires. I've pondered this question many times before for my MS3. After my stock Bridgestone tires gave out, I had another used summer set for a little while until settling down with the Continental DWS tires, 225x40x18 size. They work well in snow, but they're more oriented towards performance, so you still have to be very careful driving in winter.

This coming up winter is gonna be their 2nd winter, and so far they've held up quite nicely. Also, because of the softer sidewall, they have improved my straight line acceleration a little bit, especially now that I'm tuned and pushing almost 20psi.

in all honesty you are probably right BUT in the city of hills (pittsburgh) i feel they are a very nice thing to have (might only be truly beneficial a couple days a year) but PennDOT does a rubbish job with roads, i have to go up and down very steep hills and have actually spun out with 3 month old all seasons AND on the flip side, a dedicated winter set allows for even stickier summer performance than all seasons could ever hope to be.... which is really why i rock a "dedicated winter set" haha

Oh absolutely. If you have the means, dedicated is the way to go. Like you said, it allows running much more aggressive tire in the summer, so it's a win win situation. It's just extra $$$ :)

And why did everyone choose the avatar they have?

Wes, I still remember when Dean showed up at a cookout and was looking for teh girl in your avatar. So sad... lulz.

I'm still sad but it's cool to see Wes (and the gang) at the parties!

03 Spicy MSP and the horror movie monster Pumpkinhead (awesome). It got totaled and I couldn't stomache "Lemonhead" so I left the crash pic to give logic to the name. So sad and pathetic.
