The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Yeah, I'm kinda with Larry here, wouldn't just upgrading the front sway and leaving the rear sway stock promote more understeer?

Josh, I'm sure you'll do it right regardless of the path you take.

Haha....hey, restorations to that extent HAVE been done!

Maybe like you said, get it to be a decent driver, then keep an eye out for a nicer shell to swap everything over into.

A nicer shell would definitly be nice to find. I have a feeling I'm going to turn my attention to modding our house once we get one.

I say paint now.

and have others seen this thread? besides Phen whose posted on it

Looks pretty good to me and possible MSP replacement in about 4-5 years (cause I would probably buy used)

link to all the details for the event

I'm in! Looks like a GREAT time! I did some karting in Cincinnati last fall and loved it. Are we meeting up and following each other out, or just showing up or what? You can text me, it's easier: 44o 477 6o7o

What do I need to wear? Track provides fire suits, or just wear long sleeves and pants or what?

Besides myself and perhaps a cooler of snacks/beverages, what else should I bring?

P.S. I *might* be able to get another person or two in on the event if you need me to. LMK

larry was saying upgrading to ms3 front and something bigger/stiffer than ms3 rear... no one was debating leaving the stock rear on learn to read there sweetheart

be at beaver run around 8am for registration, bring $90 cash for the event
you must wear long pants and closed toe shoes (no flip flops or sandals)
jacket, gloves, neck support and helmets are provided

i believe we are all just going to just meet at BeaveRun, but maybe you can shoot evan9999 or wannabe a pm since i believe they are the only other 2 coming from OH

as far as what to bring, just bring drinks and snacks for yourself.
ill shoot you a text later today or early tomorrow in case you dont see all this (717)372-9104 in case you have other questions, its quicker to get ahold of me that way

Rock auto is a perfect name, because their prices rock! I always compare parts store prices to rock autos. Have you upgraded your rear bar Nick? You will need to and I would say go aftermarket and bypass the speed3 rear bar.

Not yet. I've found a few rear bars for cheap so I'll get one of them in the near future.

So I'm going to flip out at Hawk tomorrow. My pads on the rear passenger have been rattling for months and I can't get anything to stop it. Driving my car anymore makes it sound like a bigger piece of crap than it is. (lol2) I'm hoping Hawk will help me out somehow.

Very nice! They look awesome. What size and what are they wrapped in? And what other mods do you have Ben?

Either way, the sub-frame needs to be built in order to get the front wheels on, and it also needs stripped down and painted, along with the rest of the suspension components. I'm just not sure if I should clean it all up and paint it now? I don't want it to turn to s*** after years worth of dust from sitting, then all that body work dust, and wind up having to redo it anyway because it won't come clean. It would be nice to just do it once and be done with it...

Or, just throw it all together as is, and tear it all back apart down the road to clean and paint, that way it's fresh for when he starts driving it. Doesn't seem like much, but in order to assemble it all, I'd have to press in the new bushings and whatnot. I'm just not sure how easy those are to get back out? Also, assembling 43 year old, rusty, suspension components doesn't seem like fun. lol

I would at least to the underbody. Those bodies are horable for their sub frames rotting and rusting away. As long as the underbody and frame is done good the rest of the shell should be fine and good until you decide to pain the rest of the part my 1980 Formula and the 1979 TA and the front end is a b**** especially with rusty bolts and depends on how "in shape" the front bumper is. They warp very easy and the lower grills can cost up to $300 for the set. What year is it and what model (firebird, formula, trans am, or esprit?) decals are pricey too, but the biggest concern is the shape of the underbody and the rear. Just my opinion from experience.

The shell will be fine, all the rusty stuff is getting replaced. :) My only question was, to paint the sub-frame now, or later. lol

I'm going to go ahead and paint it all up now. In thinking about it all day, I realized that I can either put it together now, and have to paint it later FOR SURE. Or, I can paint it now, and maybe not even have to touch it later, potentially saving myself half the work. And, covering it up so it doesn't get all crapped up shouldn't be hard. Really, the only part I need the sub-frame bolted up for is, to fit all the panels before welding. Once I get good gaps, I can weld the quarters on, then pull the sub-frame off, set it aside, and do the finish work to the rest of the car. (bondo, primer, paint, etc.)

Dont skimp on the POR-15 and you'll never have to worry about it!

Very nice! They look awesome.

Thanks; they are MUCHO lighter than the 'stang wheels...

What size and what are they wrapped in?

17" Kosei's with Yoko Neova Advan 08 in 205/45's but they seem to have pretty wide shoulders. They look fatter than a 205 to me...

And what other mods do you have Ben?

MS front and rear sways, full body kit, lowering springs, and shocks; HKS strutbar; the HP street brake kit (rotors, pads & SS lines) from Good-Win-Racing

I think I'm also going to try my hand at aluminum welding and see if I can make my own BeatRush chassis braces.... I'll report back on my success, if any, on that front. If I get the hang of it, maybe I'll make a few of each kind for folks?
