The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Yep. Just a simple extended stop light in the summer will heat soak the TMIC. I've seen my BATs (Boosted Air Temp) jump 20-25 degrees just sitting.

As far as power goes, you won't make too much more but you'll see some gains. I have the ETS TMIC and have had it for a couple years now. It's a nice upgrade but will not cure you from having heatsoak. It will, however, reduce the time it takes for the heatsoak to dissipate while moving.

If you want some hardcore information and a serious read about FMIC vs TMIC heatsoak, I suggest you read the 10 page report from CP-E when they designed their FMIC for the MS6. It's a very well written document and full of sciency stuff.

Sub, do you know where that article is on their website? Thanks for feedback. I tried looking through their site but it's a little discombobulated.

find the FMIC for the speed3, the link ill be on the left column i think? maybe on the right. it will talk about the research they did

Yep. That's it.

And I quote the article:

THE INFAMOUS DYNO CHART QUESTION:
“What about the horsepower increase,” you ask?

You should be highly skeptical of any intercooler manufacturer that just makes a horsepower claim as a testament to how effective their intercooler is, and here’s why. There are very few dyno testing facilities that have fans that can simulate the air speeds a car might encounter on the road. In other words, using inadequate fans can greatly skew dyno results because they may only be able to simulate 20 mile-per-hour air speeds, which may favor a thin intercooler over a thick one for instance. The other reason is because you won’t have any idea why the intercooler is making power. Is it because of a lower pressure drop? Is the thermal efficiency higher? Was the vehicle heat soaked for any of the dyno runs? Did the boost pressure, ignition timing, or air/fuel ratio change appreciably between runs? None of these questions are answered from dyno data, which is why we directly test the factors that make horsepower. If the thermal efficiency increases and pressure drop decreases, then you will make more power.

Save your money on trying to see if the intercooler gives you power gains. Just be happy with the peace of mind that you now have a more efficient, whether TMIC or FMIC, intercooler on your car.

Damn it Chris, you've just blown every ricer's dream out of the water!

Not you, Chris. The Georgia Chris. Did you read "ricer" and assume it was you or something? I keed, I keed.

Speaking of ricer, you shold take peep at the "funniest pics of rice " thread there is a 5 min. vid of some outlandish s***.

Morning neighbors....1/2 day at work. :) Just hope the other 1/2 isn't spent entirely at a dr's office. lol

ill get around to it at some point early this spring haha

too many things have changed and i might as well wait til spring so i can have the most recent pics of Whitney for my sig

Need to register for Hyperdrive, Gary.....with the flywheel, clutch and swaybar

Marlon, i still dont know if i can.... im working 2 jobs and unfortunately the 2nd job is on the weekends, i can only get 1 (maybe 2 if im lucky) weekends off a month and since im the newest guy at the place i might still not get that weekend off if someone higher than me asks for it off, so its going to be tough for me to make any real plans that are set in stone :(

Tell them, your godfather is sick and he'll make them an offer they can't refuse.....

Thanks for the link, this is great stuff!

Anyone can install an excessively large intercooler core into their car, but they’ll likely suffer from a substantial pressure loss, which translates into a performance penalty.

Nothing like a 11 page document of hard facts backed up by science and actual testing. This is why I like CP-E and their products. They have a lot of testing and engineering behind and this right here is proof. It may be a bit more expensive, but you know exactly what went into it and why they made it the way they did.

Well, looks like the Mazda Corral @ Mid-Ohio is set. Sent an e-mail to Will Nonnamaker @ Team Sahlen and he is they are in 100%

Marlon

All that sounds good,

Team Sahlen is on board

1. Have Make-A-Wish Vinyl on the Team Sahlen cars = YES
2. Paddock Tour with Mazda Owners and Make-Wish-Volunteers/Staff = YES
3. Team Sahlen Driver to lead Mazda Parade Laps (if not too busy) = YES
4. Raffle-Mazda USA, Mazdaspeed Motorsports, Grand-Am, Mid-Ohio School will be donating prizes, Best Buy, local restaurants and other Ohio businesses, we have worked with in the past, maybe an autographed Team Sahlen crew shirt, t-shirt or an autographed picture of the cars in a nice frame.
= YES, we should be able to donate some items as well
5. Hospitality, we are working with Grand-Am and Jim Jordan –Alternative Marketing to provide a tent with tables, chairs, food and beverages and a live TV feed of the race.
= That would be great if Mazda and Grand Am could assist on this
Will

Meeting with Mazdaspeed Motorsports and a Mazda USA rep to finalize a few things, they've agreed to assist us, we just need to finalize the details. Looks like we'll have everything in order for the big 3 Mid-Ohio, VIR and Lime Rock Park. 2011 is going to huge......

^that is awesome! Thanks again for everything you do for us.

went to get a screening for a test drug, I have the sticky things from the ekg stuck all over me. Had to have blood drawn, a physical, eye test and a balance test which consisted of me closing my eyes and touching my nose and not falling over when the doctor nudged me.
