The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

But yes, be safe in the garage indeed.

LMS has spoken.

But yeah, it's way better if you can get the non-chlorinated kind, apparently. When the chlorinated stuff gets heated it basically makes the same kind of poison gas they used in WWI...

I still don't think it's a good idea to get it on your skin, and especially not in your eyes. Just take preventative measures and think before you act, which is much easier said than done, especially in the heat of wrenching..

LOL. I've gone thru my share of heating and cooling parts using various chemicals. A certain pain in the ass VW Beetle comes to mind... Remember that one Evan?

Hmmm, wheel bearing perhaps? Why are you such a sucker for working on girls cars? Especially when they're already taken? Haha

She didn't ask me... Dan did. I'm a moron for helping my friends as much as I do sometimes. Hahahahaha.

So... folks that we offer our help to, do not take offense to that. Dan's brought over some ****** UP projects. LOL.

Is anyone here familiar with the eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection Program? I'm trying to determine if something is a scam or not: I've got a car being advertised as being in one area, the owner is supposedly out of town, and the car is supposedly in a completely different area. I'm told the process works as follows:

1. Seller starts transaction with eBay
2. eBay sends me payment instructions
3. I send money into an eBay trust account
4. eBay confirms money was received with seller
5. Seller ships car to me (received within 3 days)
6. eBay transfers money to seller

Supposedly I have up to 5 days to inspect the car and if it insn't to my liking (as advertised) it goes back to the seller at their expense. Sound like a scam to anyone?

...i'd much rather deal with people than thru a website. Especially on a rather large purchase like a vehicle. Some people have had success, others are nightmares.

sounds sketchy, i would contact ebay about it and go from there.

Oh I agree. That was one of the first questions I asked.

It does and it's certainly raised a few flags. I've sent another email to the seller and based on the response (or lack thereof) I will most certainly be able to tell if it's a scam or not. All I'll say at this point is that if this is true then it's a damn good deal.

I just pulled my oil pan and installed a new oil return line and new gasket cause I had a pretty good sized leak going on. The leak looks to be completely taken care of but now I have a good amount of white smoke coming from the tail pipe. I THINK that since I used ammonia cleaner to remove the RTV from the oil pan, some may have stayed in the oil pan even though I wiped it down thoroughly. Once I start driving, the smoking goes away but at idle, it's coming out a good amount. Any ideas?

If you can contact ebay and everything checks out on their end, I think it would be ok. Ebay's been really good in my experience, and they're looking to keep their rep, you know? If you're going to do it, the safest way is though a credit card so that you have your credit company as another layer of "insurance." You just call them and tell them it never got delivered or whatever and they can cancel the charge. My dad's had to do that a few times over the years for various things, but nothing ever too big. It would take a really stupid person to try to do a scam through ebay because there are all kinds of laws; it's a binding agreement, just in electronic form. If you did everything right on your end, you'd have a solid case, but I dunno if it's worth it.

You and me both... How does the exhaust smell? I've noticed mine continues smoking at idle (recent discovery) and it smells like oil, even though the smoke is white/gray from what I can see, but it's hard to tell at night.

the exhaust smells normal. it smokes A LOT at idle and when i take off it leaves a big ass cloud of smoke behind me. this cannot be normal.

I really would look into rebuilding the head buddy. These things are notorious for old problems. I'm trying to talk myself into a rebuild in the near future. I'm gonna need another timing belt in the next year or so and I was gonna do a clutch while I was in there and prolly send the head out to our engine guy to rebuild.

I'm baffled, Ivan. I would start simple and work up from there. Retrace your steps and make sure you didn't forget anything or accidently unplug something. I really don't understand why it only does it at idle...

is it only at idle because you are sitting there so you notice it? when i got off at the gas station from following you from Sahlen's my windsheild was cover with small specs of oil. I originally thought it was just from when we had to accelerate on the exit ramp. check turbo seals and exhaust gasket maybe?
