The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

oh yeah, that's what I'm talking about! I'll take Jess up on that offer
which one lol? Ride along or be a driver? I think I'll have a passenger for the trip to the Memorial Day event so unless you want to drive 5 hours, I'd just wait for a much closer Nelson Ledges event :)

i still have more seat time than you b****, what the **** does that say about you?

on that bombshell im out, it was nice knowing all of you, maybe ill see you around at different events but im tired of this...

That's classy.

A much close Nelson event like the one July 14th? (also with Auto Interests) ;)

Yes, exactly lol. Nelson is a little bumpy but the 2 handled it ok and it's actually pretty stiff from the factory, not to mention with the lowering springs! You can carry some good speed at Nelson. I was coming around the carousel in the middle of 3rd gear if I remember right. I know 2nd was too short (60mph at redline), and I think I hit 90-95 on the back straight... ohhh slow cars :)

Not sure who's going but I'm 100% there. It sounds like Jess will be there as well.

Jess, that is an accurate description of Nelson lol. Just stay on the black stuff and you'll be fine. You absolutely do not want to go off there. Especially in the carousel area, the run off like drops away there.

Here's a visual representation of my speeds in the Miata at Nelson. I was on NT-01s it was about 75 degrees and sunny. My time was 1:24.95 for this lap. (SM's are in the low 1:20s, so I'm getting there!)

Edit: The yellow and red stuff around my line is supposedly lateral G's. Red is over 1.0G and yellow is over .8 or .9 or something. Not sure how accurate that is.

Once the RX-7 is done, broken in and tuned you better believe I'll be at every Mid-Ohio/Putnam Park event. I tracked it twice, it broke on the track, and I'm building it back up for the track. This current version will see HPDE use with the ability to quickly make the jump into TT if I decide to do so.

I find it funny that everyone got all bent out of shape because Ivan was looking for a sticker set of tires and wanted to do some brake modifications before tracking his car. I don't see that as "building it for the track" in any way, shape or form. In fact, I wouldn't dream of heading out onto Mid-Ohio without performance tires and upgraded brakes. As much as I'd love to, the thought of taking the 2, in its stock form, to a Mid-Ohio trackday scares me to death!

Harry's GPS Lap timer on my iPhone. Works decently well, as far as lap time accuracy. The only data it gives is what you see below which is speed at various points. So it isn't as good as a full blown data system like Traqmate or AIM solo, but it gets me something to compare against so I know if I'm improving. :)

Nice Will, awesome data. I was running 1:25 - 1:26 on the 3 last time I was there, don't feel too bad about it now.

Jess, I'd like to co-drive. I had a meeting but I was about to send a PM.

That's awesome. You were hauling in the carousel. I have no idea what my times are. At our events since they are "driver's education" and the insurance reflects so, we can't set out the timing stuff. How does that app work? I may need to download that.......

Forgot: my 2 had Porterfield R4S pads also. I had one of the driving instructors take the 2 around and he was impressed with everything but the suspension. He said it was "ok" but needed to be stiffer (and less roll...)

PM'd back!

Normally I do not chime in on these types of things, but I'll make an exception in this case. First off, everyone is entitled to their opinions, whether you like it or not. It is simple as that, why even bother responding, makes no sense. I started out tracking the wagon, if you can believe that and and then went to tracking the auto-xing and then full out track addict. My road was a simple one, as I stated out with no major modifications to any of the cars, as I got more and more into it, the upgrades strted and the expense started! None of this is cheap as we all know and my way is not the best way, it is the way that worked best for me!

It bothers me to see all of this "going down" in this section, a damn shame to say the least. Jess, if we were not going out of town, I would join you on track and the same for Will. I am still putting miles on the motor and making sure eveything is in order, I still have suspension parts that need to be added to the cars and it looks like I'll be doiing more testing and tuning that actual TT events this year. But I will be back on track this year for sure!

I like wrenching but I would rather drive the car any day of the week. So if I could afford to have someone put a nice car together for me and sort it out with me I would go that route.
And as far as tracking my car I am signed up for Mid-Ohio with NASA at the end of the June. And will be signing up for the Nelson Ledges event with Auto Interest as well.
Anyone going to Toldeo Express on June 3rd for the NWOR Auto-x? I singed up a few weeks a go. Evan bring out the P5 its a nice smooth piece of concrete that is a blast to drive on. And for the novice drivers the coarse is lined in chaulk you just need to keep it between the lines

Sounds good to me. Do you have a link, Marc? I might need someone to hold my hand since I'm new to all of this. :)

I'm really looking forward to seeing you out on track again Marlon!

Yeah that's as fast as I dared go in the carousel because on that particular day it was breaking up pretty bad in places so I had to be careful to avoid the holes :D (That's Nelson for ya!)

The lap timer app is GPS based. The built-in GPS on the phone is decently accurate but I use https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned) which has a GPS antenna built in so it increases the accuracy, charges the phone, and makes it so I can see it during the lap (it has split times and comparison vs my best lap).

Here is the app itself: http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/harrys-laptimer-pro/id338257907?mt=8

It's a pretty awesome solution given the accuracy and cost. But, at this point I want to analyze more that just my time/speed so I'm hoping to get a Traqmate very soon.

The only club I've run with that specifically prohibits timing equipment is NNJR PCA and they won't let you set up transponders or anything like that. That said, they don't search your car for GPS based timing solutions and won't give you a hard time if you have something unless you are being stupid.

Crap. I'm registering for the Toledo Auto-x but am stuck at the ole class button. I don't really care what class I'm in since I don't want to compete. I'll post something in the Motorsports thread to find out what class I should run. Unless one of you kind auto-x cats would like to give me a hand via PM? Please and thank you. :)
