The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

truth.

Speaking of regulations.

These damn headrests that EVERYONE hates because they are uncomfortable:

......are being mandated by the NHTSA.

Oh, I guess didn't mention that I swapped out the billboard sized rear head rests in the CX for the much smaller JDM version. Now all 3 head rests are the same height. Before all you could see in the rearview mirror was head rests, that's real safe.

I have the same issue. Luckily no one really sits in my backseat, so I've just taken all the headrests out in the second row and put them in the hatch.

They are pushing to have mandatory backup cameras on all cars... It failed once, but is back again.

When did we, as a nation, become such bad drivers that we need lane departure warning, blind spot warning, self parking, help in stopping, auto (and self) cruise control, and a back up camera?

It did pass, but it doesn't take full effect for a few years, as well as the interlink communication between cars. It's all bulls***. Hell, people didn't suck so bad at driving when HEAT was an option, and there was only one mirror.

And nearly a debate here as well. lol

Thanks Evan.

I believe they are trying to push the real time monitoring (through the valve sensors), but have not yet required it. I did think that most new cars have moved away from the ABS calculation version, more specifically because it can't calculate well when the actual ABS or TC is being used.

I like backup cameras, makes it really easy to hook up a trailer.

What engine does the dodge have?

That's about the only time they are really useful.......

Well, I guess since there are some butt ugly cars with horrendous blind spots it could be helpful. Dammit people, when buying a car, don't buy one with a terrible unsafe blind spot.

The headrests for the rear passengers in the Fiat are underneath my bed at home lol. Huge round things, had to be like 7" OD

I took the head rests in the Escape out right away. The wagon's aren't bad but I took the one out where Kennedy's seat is so it's easier to switch her seat between the two.

You can blame consumer unions (e.g. Consumer Reports) for a lot of the nanny laws and regulations. They have a strong lobbying presence in the government and hold considerable power over companies.

It's not just cars and driving when it comes to questionable intelligence / skill. The social world is creating a better idiot. Priorities are being shifted FOR people, expectations of people are changing, and society in general is generating an unjustified expectation of self entitlement. For us, cars are the primary way that we see the culture shift from needing skill and knowledge to do something (i.e. drive a car) to people expecting things to be handed to them easily because "they can't." After all... how many times have people told all of you "I can't drive stick." No... you can. You just won't because you expect the car to do things for itself and you're likely too lazy. I sold a manual car to a guy with one leg. You can do anything you think of... you just won't.

The old joke... make something idiot proof and the world will just create a better idiot. Yeah... s***'s true.
