The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

I got the speed3 wheels mounted on the CX5. It looks so much better now, it looks sporty, dare I say aggressive. I (Jen) will post pics in the next couple of days and you guys can tell me what you think.

Needs moar low!

okay I know you guys are bias but still I am beyond aggravated. My mom just called me to tell me that she will not be looking at any forgien cars in her new car search as my dad will get mad. Last week I was talking to him on the phone and I said it is time to sell my mom's current car (2006 Pontiac Grand Prix) because it has 150k miles and that is when a lot of american cars (that I have witnessed) start to fall apart and just become complete money pits. I agreed that it has been a good car, well great car, as we have not had to put much into it in the time of ownership other than maintenance i.e. water pump and heater core. So why not end it on a good note and sell the thing for the 4k its worth (kbb=3967). I had it set up so she could get an amazing price on a new mazda of her choice. Now I look like an idiot for setting everything up and my mom just ditching because my dad wants to prove me wrong that an American car is better. He told me that a car does not have to be foreign to make it to 200,000 miles. And I responded with "well any car can do it when its constantly having parts replaced at the dealership" now he has a huge problem with anything that is not, well designed, in the US. Because we all know hardly any of the American cars now-a-days are made, assembled, or even designed here in the US. So I am leaving this for him to rear tonight at his house:

He always bragged about how impressed he was with the quality and rigidity of my car. Now he has to prove a point and prove me wrong by forcing my mom into a piece of garbage. I hope it breaks down just so I can tell him I don't care whats wrong with it. Never thought my dad would be this immature.

yes that is over 16 MILLION vehicles affected just in 2014, and 2014 is not over yet.

Might be a bit of work, but you could show him what cars are truly built in the US, and where the parts come from. That might shock him. No offense to your dad but I feel like it's the "Merica!" mentality like that, that is keeping GM in business. They make bad cars with the exception of the Vette (that can be argued) but people keeping buying them.

or show him this article: proud-to-be-american-buy-foreign

I completely agree. he is taking the "my dick is bigger" (smaller) approach. He always has to show his dominance towards me. its been like that since I hit puberty for some reason. He is just being a total dick and its annoying. I will look it up for him. I have said the same thing in the past but he just says "well the money goes back to japan and I don't like that." <<good point....

If you are 90% sure he will stand by his bad, I mean Chevy decision, your real response should be something along the lines of, "It's your car purchase, your money, your waste, and I will not give you advice, help fixing or time towards it by any means, whatever"

That will probably piss him off more, but eh.

Meh, I'd just leave it be. I had my dad go start my car during the middle of the week while I was in Phoenix and he called saying the noise and vibration ruined the car. ZFG

I already told my mom I hope it breaks down. Every time he says its a great car I am going to ask when the next time it has to go in for "service"? He is already pissed as me so I might as well pour gas on the fire. why not have some fun?

Could just wait until you see what they get, then always refer to it as "the foreign car" if it was made else where. I do that with my mother-in-laws Cruze.

This. I really think some people get lemons, as my parents and I have had Chrysler products most of my life and not had any major issues. My Fiat has had more issues in 10k miles/3 months than most of my cars.

If people would just keep up with maintenance and give a s***, I think it would go a long way.

People buy "cheap" cars and treat them as so, and that perpetuates the "POS" car mentality (ie: Cavaliers, Neons, etc).

We've had Caravans/Town and Countries/Ram/Dakota/Jeeps/Laser/Neons and none have had anything major go wrong... and I rack hard miles up on mine.

The Neon Patrick sold (and both of my other ones) are a testament to something lasting as long as it is taken care of.

the neon has a mitsubishi motor, correct? I think that is a testament to any car though. no car will last if it is neglected. and those are the first people to complain about "hating" cars

Yes and no. The Mitsu motor is only the SOHC (420A). Your Neon had the DOHC (ECC).

Correct! In the 80's when Chrysler was failing, Mitsu, bailed them out. Once again a mismanaged company, GM mismanaged into the ground and hiding the fact of faulty ignition switches that they hid for 10+ years....... American cars are better? German Cars, Japanese, Korean?

Take your pick, you can find fault with any and all manufacturers

Just hate GM I just can't stand them. I think its just because I've had them shoved down my throat since I was born so I just grew this festering hatred that I can't stand them or any car they bring out. other than the buick GS that is a nifty car
