I agree, hobbies are wonderful. But if I had kids (which I will never ever ever ever ever... ever have) then I would tell them if you've got money to sink into a car you've got money to move out and get your own place. I got kicked out when I was 18. I think it's my older generation that we all moved out or went to college when we were 18 and it was frowned upon/you were teased if you lived at home with your parents. Now-a-days it's socially acceptable to be in your 20's and still living with your parents. That just seems really weird to me. I would want to move the eff out and start my own life and be independent.
The only way I got to live at home was since I was going to college and it saved me a ton of money. I stayed at home shortly after that to get a few things squared away, and moved out when I got married. Other than that, you gota have your own place.
lol same here.... my dad told me my senior year of high school that if i was going to go to college locally (working part time to pay my car/gas/ins/cell bills) it was ok to stay at the house but i had to abide by his rules. he told me if i planned to work full time and not go to school i either paid rent and still had to abide by his rules in the house or i moved out on my own.
well i moved to pittsburgh for college and learning to budget and provide for yourself at 18, living 3-3.5 hours from your family. you learn alot of things quickly. i have friends that are 24-26 still living free of charge at home, building 20-30k project cars and acting like im the stupid one for owning my own house and having a car i dont mod much anymore haha

I agree with this statement. This is my situation. I think a lot of it depends on how your relationship with your parents is and how much you want to be "socially accepted".

Chris, are you going to college?
My GF stayed with her parents while she was in college and working 3 jobs to pay for college, but has her own place now. But I can understand that if you're going to school it makes sense to stay home. But before we moved in with each other I told her it would be a good idea for her to get her own place first and do some "growing up" (of course I didn't word it that way. I'm not that stupid. haha), pay her own bills, fix her own meals, do her own laundry, etc. Be a grown up, haha. She was doing all of that while living with her parents anyway, but still.
It just baffles me when some cats still live at home in their 20's if they're not in school or in the military or something. Just hanging out living off your parents in their basement, nah. Time to move the eff out and do some growing up, children. And stay off my lawn while you're doing it!

Similar to what I had too. Go to college, keep your grades up, pay your own bills, you can live at the house free. Also was told that if I could spend a bunch of money modding a car, then I can spend a bunch of money toward something beneficial in life... like my own place. I didn't really mod the Civic until I already had a job lined up once I graduated. Got hired by B&W in March, did the engine swap in April, moved in May. Boom.
My good friend Travis is 30. He still lives at home and cycles thru expensive guitar gear faster than I do. No way could I do that. I'd need to GTFO.

Yessir I am. I'm going for mechanical engineering and eventually into aerospace once I have the ME degree. I am only going part time as I am paying right out of pocket for it yet working full time. Going to take a while. It also makes for a very tight budget on stuff. I haven't purchased any car related things in quite some time. Mostly just removing crap and lightening where I can perhaps putting a certain amount off to the side to save up for parts but not much. More is being set aside though for getting married in less than 10 months.

Well, I'm also not too hip to that either. I'm 35 but even "back in my day" cats didn't get married until they dated 3-4 years first. And then move in with each other, then get married. Or unless they are religious then they skip the "moving in" part and just date for 3-4 years first.
My observation of marriage currently is like it's a fun and trendy thing to do right away. And divorce rates are so high it's also socially acceptable to get married and divorced like it's no big deal. To me, marriage is still a very serious and important step and something that is for life, till death do you part. Not until you get bored of each other or don't like the way they chew or something. I think a lot of people don't take marriage seriously and rush into it because it would be a fun thing to do. However, there are couples that have gotten married right away and are still together, like Phen's parents. But to me, Tessa and I have been together 3+ years and it will be a couple more years until I propose. This is a one time shot for me.

I dated my wife over 7 years before I proposed. If it's not the right time, it's not the right time. And coming from parents who are divorced, I didn't want to end up going down that path in my life.

Wow....reading back through the posts, I see that I agree with Evan....then again I'm also a crumudgy ol' man. haha I graduated hs in May and that Aug was going through Navy bootcamp. Since then I've only been home to visit. Got married at 24, wife was 22 and we'll be married 19yrs in May. It's been tough and we've had our ups and downs but we lean on each other when needed and she's stuck with me forever....don't think she's too happy with that but oh well. 
Like others, had I stayed home I would have been paying rent and my own way. To me, there is nothing wrong with that and it helps prepare the child for the real world...because it can suck and not everything goes your way. Plus you can't coddle their sorry asses thru life....kick 'em out the nest and make 'em fly!

No Holiday here but that's ok with me. I'd much rather have the week between Christmas and New Year's off.

Went to the range with my bro in law Friday. I think I found the gun I want to buy. FNS-9 Brother in law might get one as well when he starts at the police academy next month, and he is an huge M&P fan.
Worked a long day Saturday then drove home in that snow storm. Sunday I ran some errands, clean a big and watched some really good football.
