The CX-5 LED Lighting Thread

Thanks! In case anyone is wondering, the signals do not hyper flash even though they are LEDs in the back.

To ChrisLLK, the Philips LumiLED aka 'LMZ' bulbs got installed tonight... a little side-by-side with the LED that it's replacing...

Below is the link to my review of them (another thread in the forum) with pictures... I have also started creating a comparison chart of the various bulbs taken at on-road conditions with identical camera settings on a dSLR.

Lol, when you said Philips, I thought you were getting these... [Philips X-treme Ultinon LED]

Yeah... I saw those too... after I picked up the 'LMZ' style: http://www.vleds.com/led-headlights/h11-lmz.html

However, they seem to be designed specifically for fog light application (with ~5% more light on road compared to stock H11 as described on the chart). But now that I've mostly covered headlights... fogs may be next lol... though, I would really like to see some yellow LEDs for fogs.

Indeed... now I'm curious... though that thread indicated there was some fitment issue that Philips is correcting... not sure if that is already addressed. This might the beginning to the LED fog search... my wallet hates me... lol

Debating between these 2 LEDs for my trunk/cargo area... Anyone have any experience with those? Both 5000k. Both same price ~$18 without any discount shipped.
TRS Morimoto XB LED for ~$18 shipped

I recently upgraded my license plate lights with Philips Vision LED 6000k which I like since it's actually more around 5000k.

Pretty nice bulbs for the license plate.

edit: and I might consider these for the inside later on.. Not overly bright but cheap, comes out to around $6/each from rockauto.

I have been debating going with an LED light strip mounted elsewhere in the trunk since oftentimes I find that the light gets blocked due to some tallish items.

you could try installing a light pod from someplace like superbrightleds on the other side of the bay and wire it back to the factory switch (very carefully to avoid the ccm fuse issue)

Yeah... was reading up on this thread for some inspiration (ran across it while preparing for the tail light install): http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?123838940-How-To-Install-LED-Strips-in-CX5-Cargo-Area

But yea... there's definitely a concern about the rear control module fuse with the horror stories seen on this forum as well...

disconnect battery (just in case sakes) and if you carefully extract the light assembly, unplug it from the switch, replace it, and hook up the leads to the remote pod before reconnecting it and popping it back in place, you should be ok

Unhooking battery will make it extra safe. I just disconnected the light assembly when I swapped mine.

Yeah... I removed the assembly when I swapped to LED bulbs, but in looking at light strips, I want to make sure the proper power is being drawn to avoid blowing a fuse...

So.. when replacing the trunk light, can I just disconnect the plug from the assembly or do I really have to disconnect the battery to be safe? lol

you'd have to hook up quite a few leds to draw more power than the incandescent bulb that was in there

Was thinking some decent sized COB LEDs, but those will likely be over the 5W that the standard festoon bulb uses for that enclosure/outlet. Might have to turn that into a trigger/switch and tap the lighter outlet for power.
