I bought a used 2006 M5 with 96k miles. I bought this off of a Volkswagen dealership lot. This dealership has outperformed my highest expectation for a car dealership customer service. I am stunned.
I had the dreaded suspension clunk and it was noted on my test drive. On the due-bill from the service dept (among a couple other non suspension related issues) was written "check out noise in front". After driving the used car for a week I decided to call them on this and finally had it "checked".
I could gush on in detail about how great these guys treated me, but the point is that a Volkswagen dealership that sold me a used, high mileage Mazda, fixed the clunk and absorbed all of the cost. They replaced front bushings and dust cover (see below) and new front control arms based on a Mazda TSB. Before I knew they had ordered all of the parts, I had ordered the front and rear sway bar bushings expecting I would end up replacing them myself, but I didn't have to.
On the ride home from the shop I was listening intently to the suspension. The front end was like new. The rear end sounded like it may have a slight clunk but only because I was scrutinizing it and I knew they had not worked on it. I planned on just replacing the rear bushings myself since it is easy and I had them anyway......
As soon as I got home the phone rings - "Our tech left his flashlight in your car". I looked under the hood to inspect the sway bar bushings and, sure enough, his light was in the pan of the cross member but I could not grasp it from the top with my grabber tool. These guys have taken good care of me so I drove back over to the shop for the tech to get under the car and get his flashlight. The tech was very thankful and embarrassed so I took a chance and I said to the tech, "This will cost you the installation of my rear bushings" wink-wink..... He said he would mention it to his manager.
While I waited for him to get the light, the service manager found me in the waiting room and said they would put my rear bushings on if I could wait! Since it was already up in the air while he recovered the flashlight it took about 5 minutes. Boom - rear end done too.
I did not expect that kind of service from a dealership that sold me a used car that is not even their brand. If I am ever in the market for a new VeeDub, I am definitely going back to those guys.
Here is a pic of the right front swaybar bushing with the dust cover that says Mazda on it.
