supercharged 2.0 ?

I still haven't put mine together yet. The Eaton still sits in a box in the shop. I'm planning on putting it together this summer though. I'm just going to use an FMU instead of an extra injector setup. I'm only planning on running around 6 psi. It should be pretty fun! I found someone on Ebay that reconditions the Eatons (bearings, drive coupler, new oil and seals, bypass) and the price is decent. He wants $400 exchange or $550 if you don't have a core. That's slightly lower than Magnuson which is around $700-800 bucks. I'm thinking of doing that instead of installing my used one so that I won't have to worry about putting a used part on my low mileage engine. I figure $400 for a rebuilt blower (since I have a core), $220 for an FMU from Flying Miata, Then around $100 for the tensioner and related parts, then $50 or so for the new belt and steel parts to make a new alternator mount, then I'm hoping to keep the manifold under $250. If it all works out, I hope to have it together by August.

seriously, someone needs to come up with a good blower for the protege... I think with the right internals.. that could be more fun than a turbo..(in some cases).... no turbo lag! and more usable power band!

I beg to differ;)
Our turbos build boost by 2000 rpm and hit full boost at 2700 rpm, a very wide and usable torque/ hp curve indeed.

Superchargers are a thing of the past and this is evident by the oem mainly utilizing turbo's (evo, wrx, mazdaspeed...ect)

well sorry .. I was only guessing on the Powerband thing.. but I can see why the MSP has such a low turbo lag.. the lack of Psi. and Tiny ass turbo might have something to do with it..(Not trying to piss anyone off).... and come on superchargers are not that bad... My friends prelude hauls ass w/ a supercharger...and the new Cobras arent that bad either.. (and dont slam on me just because I said I liked a domestic) however, I love turbos none the less.. but turbos are known for more top end power to superchargers low end to mid power.. that is what I was going by... I had no proof of anything..

To each his own:D
I have had turbo and supercharged cars and the more intoxicating ones are the ones that are spun by exhaust energy :)

does anyone know the dyno results of an area 51 kit on the 2.0 engine?

I'm totally new to turbos- because it was out of my price range, but I'm working on it :)

As for the area 51 kit, my brief scans of the posts on it here suggest that it's near useless on the 2.0L engine and won't even breech 150HP???

Sorry I have to ask the newbie question, but in effect, $5000 is looking like what it'd take to do the turbo + installation, so I definetly want to get the facts on the supercharger

Thanks!

Area 51 will slap a supercharger on your protege to the tune of 5 grand if you really want one that bad.

i believe it was $15K for the supercharger kit.

so what about that probe s/c kit on the proteges , it the same engine!

but it's not the same engine bay, would it still fit correctly under the hood? Ive never seen one so I have no idea.

That looks like a pretty inexpensive option- which eaton do you have? With our engine layout, how are you planning on redirecting the pulley system to the supercharger?
