Sue Mazda?

Are you in USA? If so then just call MAZDA U.S.A. 1-800-222-5500 and tell them that you have exactly same problem as the Protege's that have been recalled but your VIN was not included in the passed on recall. Im MORE than sure that they will help you out.

Yea...that's funny. I did the same thing and they just said, "Well, we are sorry to hear that that has happened but you car is not included in the recall." It can't hurt to try though. It they do fix it for free though tell me so I can b**** to them some more.

you should already be b**** at them. There is nothing that you can do. Its a factory defect, wether or not your VIN was included in the recalled VIN range. If I would be you I would take it as far as the court. Thats if you REALLY wanna **** MAZDA USA up. You have exactly the same symptoms as the recalled Proteges. The same problem has occured in your car. Its not your fault that MAZDA Corp. DID NOT know what exact VIN range to recall. They just simply guessed and recalled Proteges that were released between March 2003 to August 2003 (or July 2003). I would definetly fight this one.

I'm considering it- I need others to add to this case- my email is daveskimo@aol.com - let me know!

I bought a used air intake manifold for 110 bucks after two hours of searching- the design was different - the replacement part has the butterfly valves SANDWICHED between two halves of the spindle/axle. rather than screwed to a single peice spindle - old part was much more robust in terms of design. Obviously they cheapened the design, hence they should be recalling all intake manis with this crappy design, rather than issuing a bulls*** replacement kit with locktight on the screws and recalling a limited range.

Bitter!

i think there was a recall for this same problem? i broought my car to the dealer for the intake manifold, and they fixed wutever it was that was wrong with it. this was a couple months ago i think. i think it was only the 2003s?

I have a 99 1.8 that has developed VICS problems, apparently the screws are still there but the butterflies are rattling. this is the first my dealer had head of it happening to a 1.8L so they submitted a technical report to mazda australia and are waiting to hear back...This problem is obviously due to poor design and not model run.

need help about to buy a 2002 protege out of warranty

can someone confirm that this is only on 2003 model please, thanks.

Wow, that makes me feel better, I have an 02 from Hiroshima I think.
Can anyone confirm that it is only 2003? Has anyone had their 2002 get hit by this problem?

u should have gotten a letter!

yeah i got a letter from mazda about a year ago about that problem, it was a recall. It was only on certain engines made at one plant during a certain time! They gave me a list of VIN numbers, or a range, and that if youre vin was in that range then there was a possiblity that that the screws on youre intake butterfly shutter valves were not "tightened to specifications." Luckily my engine was not made at that location, but still you were supposed to take it to mazda to get it lookedat/fixed. I got a whole new intake! Even though mine was not affected. So yeah if i find the letter with the vin numbers on it i can post it later.

Im confused after reading all these pages. so if you car was included in the recall then you would get a letter from mazda? I bought my car used back in july 06 so i guess i dont if the previous owners got one because i havent. So should i even be worried about anything my car was produced in 02 but is an 03. Thanks guys/girls for all ur help kinda new to the mazda thing
