After reading 8 pages of posts, I think that a point was missed.

08 Cobalt SS' are everywhere around here already looking for MS3's, WRX's and whatever else they think they need to show they are better. I have driven an 07 (hated it) and now have driven the 08 (same problem). Plenty of torque and HP, a given, however the interiors are a far cheaper grade, unsupportive seats and a horrible 5 speed. Also, they arent much cheaper. I have also driven the Caliber SRT4, same problem. The only thing I would take out of the caliber is the seats, they were pretty money. But as everyone says, that is my opinion. One I know a lot of people share.
the new ss is out yes... it is not as fast as the sp3. gm says it is but drove one and it is slow off the line. engine doesn't want to spool fast. has good upper end power but no low power. still has a crappy gm manual that prob. came out of grandpa's buick...

Its numbers are testing as well or better than the MS3, by everything I've read. I think your buttdyno is biased.

It's a benchmark for GM small cars to date, ie performance. I can't knock it. They are making progress.
My point is that someone who just drives a Cobalt ss of the lot is going to have another thing coming if they think they're going to be walking Mazdspeed3's all day long. Most of us have at least an intake and that alone is probably enough to match the acceleration of a 08 Cobalt ss. The only reason the Cobalt SS is slightly quicker stock is because the MS3 comes with the most restrictive stock air box to date and a weak ass rear engine motor mount. A simple intake normally doesn't give a car massive gains like it does in the MS3.
Your response to my statement makes it sound like I was talking about a Mazdaspeed3 with a turbo upgrade or something.

So basically you're saying that if you take two cars which perform nearly identically, mod one of them, the modded one would win.

The speed 3 and the cobalt ss are basicly identical as far as numbers and the rest of the other s*** goes. Like the guy before me said it's a drivers race, so just buy which ever car you like and live happily ever after with it. Bottom line is that this is the reason why we have different car brands because everybodies opinions and taste are different and not everybody wants to drive the same freaking car. Cobalt is a great car so is the speed 3 so end the fanboi-sm please.

these new cars try to compete with the speed3, the csrt4, and now this one... why did honda even made a k23 turbo for the rdx? to compete with mazdas cx7 and the cx7 dont even have the tmic, nothing beats mazdas =)
