Street Prepared build

Cross drilled brake lines FTW!

HAHA!!!

It is probably too hard to find good 14s that won't cost a small fortune. Said small fortune could be invested in a Quaife!

Good to hear the P5 is still out and kicking butt. I miss the lift and drift of your car, Justin. Mine still isn't getting there, so I might tighten up the rear sway some. It is probably a combination of the courses I'm running (usually slow and tight), more rear camber, the spacers on the rear, and the fact I keep getting stuck with WAY over half a tank the past two events that keep the end planted.

I only have 1 or 2 more scheduled races this season. Looking forward to next year I only have a few things left to do on the car.

#1. AWR rear lateral arms. I need more rear camber!
#2. 15X8 rims. No sense in pinching 225's on a 7" wide rim.
#3. Adj. Cam gears.
#4. More dyno tuning.
#5. Start drilling holes in all the legal stuff.
how do these give more camber? are they adjustable?

I still want to go to 14's but it's nearly impossible to get them without going to multipiece wheels like Kodiak. I'm not ready to spend $2,000 on wheels when I could get a set of 15X8s and a Quiafe for the same money. I'm commited to finishing this build, but I need to think about saving something form the budget to build the 1st Gen Protege.

Yep...they have threaded joints on the ends just like the adj. endlinks.

i can't seem to find a pic or link. where can i find them?

www.awrracing.com sells them in their store. no pics though. like xelderx said, they look like a big swaybar endlink. round tube with a rodend on either side.

Justin, are you running with out LSD?

15x8's will help. What about goin' to town on the fenders with a sawzal and run something wider? :) Legal weight reduction!

I've got the revised MSP LSD, but it's not aggressive enough for my tastes. I've driven a '77 Rabbit GTI with the Quaife (sp) and it was a lot more active. I've considered stuffing 245/16s under it, but I'm more worried about rotating mass with the larger tire/rim combo.

Time to get out the sawzall. The talk is that hoosier is going to bring out a 275/35/15 tire in the A6 compound for next year according to emails from people at hoosier this size has been approved for production. With the OD of 22.9 this is the same OD as your current 225/45/15 tires so you will not lose gearing going to this tire.

From the miata boards

From Jeff Speer of HRT (Hoosier)

Emilio,
The new size which has been approved for production, is the
P275/35ZR-15. The diameter will be 22.9" with a tread width of 10.3".
On a 9.5" wide rim, the total width should be 11.25".Initally this size
will only be offered in the autocross A6, until I see a demand for this
size in club racing which uses the R6 compound. I am hoping to have
this size ready by late Feb. or early March.
The ideal rim width would be a 9.0" or a 10.0" wide rim. I am sure if
the competitor has class rule restrictions, a 8.0" could be used as
well.
Hope this helps and you are able to market a good quality race wheel,
15x9 or 15x10.
Have a nice Christmas next week.

oh snaps!

would there be ANY way to fit something that wide on a protege?

sawzall! and fender flares or look at how some of the other SP cars have the tires sticking way out of the fenderwell.

hell no to fender flares...

and i never understood how it can stick so far out the fenderwell and not cut down the tire.

high spring rates.

Well...I have run into a few problems since my last post that I'll go ahead and cover. The first, most annoying problem is the stumbling idle that eventually just cuts the car off at stoplights and such. I first thought it was the EGR valve. Finally found out today that the intake manifold gasket is blown. Luckily I have a spare gasket and I should have that fixed later tonight.

In the suspension catagory I have a terrible clunky sound in the front end. I just kept attributing it to the AWR front endlinks getting loose. Nope...had the car jacked up yesterday cleaning the air filter and thougt it was a good time to see how my homemade urethane control arm bushings are holding up. Well they aren't. The control arms have a bunch of play in them. Looks like I'll have to reinstall the rubber bushings until I can get some better material.

Woohoo!!! Just ordered one Diamond 15X10 Pro Series wheel to do some test fitting. The FD wheels actually had 6.5" of backspacing and I liked how they cleared the strut. I figured I would go ahead and get the same 6.5" backspace in the 15X10 rim and then if I need to move it out a little due to the tire overhanging the rim a little it will just be a small spacer to clear the struts.

i would say you get too high and loose traction...but with that tire...i highly doubt it. hmmm....

depends on the smoothness of the lot surface.

and define "too high." ;)
