Street Prepared build

Alright....little update.

one thing upgrade...one thing broken.

I finally got around to installing the Kartboy shortshifter today. I've had a B&M in the car for 4 years, but I found the Kartboy to be better after driving someone else's. That is a step in the right direction.

The step in the wrong direction came when I went driving a few days ago and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor. After pulling all the wheels off it seems the right rear caliper is leaking pretty bad around the parking brake assembly. I've got another salvage caliper coming this week and she should be up and functional again this weekend.

I also had to order new street tires since the Hankooks were pretty much slick or corded depending on which end of the car they were on. I went by the tire store today and ordered another set of Z212s, but this time I got 245/45-16 instead of 225s.

you going to be at autox on mar 11 in verona?

I have to work that weekend. I probably couldn't afford it anyway. They just disconnected my cable for non-payment. My roommate moved out and I'm stuck with the full rent for a while.

I just saw on miata.net that they have started shipping the 275/35/15 tires are you in the first batch of them that are starting to be shipped now?

I saw that Hoosier Tom ordered 48 of the first 60 A6's being produced for his customers.

My stupid tax returns haven't come back yet. I'm looking for them any day now.

In other news I installed my longer front wheel studs (ARP-100-7708) so I could get rid of the 15mm hubcentric spacer for a 8mm regular spacer. I need to get the rear fenders knocked out a little more so I can lower it another 1/2 inch. I've also swapped out springs and now have 450# front and 600# rear. After seeing how much the front still compresses I might have to get really drastic with the new tires. I can't imagine having even more lateral grip.

heh... new swaybar time? It has got to be frustrating but fun to make all these changes. The car would be tough to get used to and whatnot, but in the end I'm sure it will be awesome.

The swaybar setup is good right now. It's the springs that might need adjusting. The weight transfer works really well for turning the car. Once i get the new tires though all that could go out the window. We are talking about a massive increase in grip. I'm not sure where it will all end up. I'm hoping it doesn't get too extreme because I do still drive this on the street several times a week.

not sure if i'm asking the right way:
Where will the "turning center" be in relation to the new tire's center line?

does that make sense?

Not sure yet. Until I get a tire mounted on a rim I won't know exactly what offset I'll need. I've got a test rim at the house waiting on a tire. It's a 6.5" backspacing which is the same as my FD RX-7 rims. The rim cleared everything with a good amount of room, but who knows once a tire is mounted and the suspension is compressed.

Some nice pics from the miata boards.

Tire on the left is a 225/45-15 according to the OP.

when i saw that pic i was wondering, "what's with the skinny tire on the left?"

that 275 is some serious rubber. you definitely need those, justin. and i'm going to predict some higher spring rates. FTW. ;)

actually, "FTW" would be a 275/30/13. (laugh)

Well...it's descision time. I mean huge descision time. I have found the 1st Gen chassis I've been looking for. Dirt cheap, no sunroof, BP (well blown up BP). I think it's time to put the tools down on the Pro5 and concentrate on the better car. I'll probably be moving the Pro5 up to HPDE duty very soon. Just need a rollbar. It's just so tough to drop over $1,000 on tires and wheels for a car that may possibly require a ton of extra work to get them to work properly. That money could be better spent on the better car.

Yeah, 1G definitely has tons of potential, so we can't blame you if you go with that. If you want to sell your coilovers, let me know :D

While I would hate to not see your protege out there I think the 1G is a better car for FSP right now.

Yea...I went to look at the 1st Gen a few hours ago. It's a perfect candidate. Almost everything I need is already there. All the stuff that is missing is stuff I would change anyway. It's a '94 LX, no sunroof. The guy had a custom turbo setup on it, but it finally melted a piston. Picked the whole thing up sans the turbo stuff for $200.

I will not be de-modding the Pro5. At least not yet. I'm still looking to get a rollbar for it, but not until later this year.
