Street Prepared build

I'll be in TOpeka Saturday hanging out at the Pro. Sunday Richard and I will be at the National staff run practice not the kansas region one.

I just got back from a very busy day. I spent 2 hours on the dyno this morning trying to tune the MPI. Nothing worked. It didn't matter what we changed or how we changed it the car just kept getting richer and richer. Even dipping down to 11/1 AFR I made 125whp on a Mustang dyno. This motor is much stronger than the last motor considering it only made 126whp on a dynojet. I emailed a few datalogs to MPNick to see if he could find out what we were doing wrong. I finally got my rear strutbar in tonight. I haven't driven on it enough to see how much effect it has, but the car seems a little more planted than before. I tightened the bar up pretty good and I could hear the strut towers creaking as I pulled them closer together. The extra camber is probably helping more than the stiffer rearend. I have an alignment scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. I replaced the screws that were holding on my DG lip with quarter turn quick fasteners. It was bugging me how long it took to get the front lip off to get the car on the trailer and stuff. I would get some pictures but my sister ran off with my digicam to go to some drag show. And I'm not talking 1/4 mile drag show...I'm talking guys dressed as girls show. I have no idea how she finds out about this stuff, but the pictures are always funny as hell.

HAHA, drag show? Like... what do they do, see which dude looks like a lady the best?

Sounds good man... I can't wait to see the beast and drive it next week :D It'll give me some ideas for things to do on my 5 (like I need any)

Oh yea...forgot to add. My brand new Hoosier A6's showed up the other day. Got to get them mounted tomorrow morning.

going to salem again??

Is that next weekend? Someone mentioned the BRR was running the Sunday after Nationals and that we might be close by on the trip home from Topeka. We were thinking about stopping by if we weren't too tired.

salem isnt till november. oct 1 is mercer and oct 22 is verona

We might come to Mercer. Depends on how late we are getting back. i'll have to check my work schedule for the others.

I just took the car out to scrub in the tires. Holy ****** hell...I forgot what brand new R'comps felt like. The car was on rails. There is a huge college parking lot across the street from my garage so I went over there. I did a few slow figure 8's to get the molding compound off and wasn't happy with the rear swaybar so I went back over to the garage and tightened it up a bit. Went back over to the lot and did a wide open second gear flick to the left and chopped the throttle to check the rotation. The back end came around for about 1/2 a second and then I was off in the new direction.

I can't do anything more to the car now. She is as ready as I can make her. We'll be loading it on the trailer tonight and I'll be on my way tomorrow morning.

Well I made it back from Topeka in one piece. I've been having fun today burning the last of the 100 octane out of the gas tank. I'll probably take a break from working on the Pro5 for a little while so I can finish up and start a few other projects. I'll have it back in the garage this winter at some point for a few updates. It's going to need at least 1.5 degrees more rear camber, 15X8 inch wheels, and a little more HP.

Rear camber is a little wierd. The way the AWR struts are set up I can only get about -1 degree even with the rear camber plates modified. I'm going to go in and cut a little more on them, but the results will be minimal. I'm going to have to look elsewhere to gain what I need. I'm going to get 1 inch shorter springs in the rear so I can raise the lower perches up and out of the way of my street tires. That will hopefully give me enough room to use some camber bolts on the rear spindles. Right now there is not enough clearence between the wheels and the strut/spring perches to change the angle between the spindle and the strut. With more rear camber I can transition and turn significantly faster.

I finished 16th out of 24 drivers in Topeka. I was hoping for a little better, but it was a finish that recieved praise from a lot of the FSP veterans there. Will Kalman definitely showed that the 1st Gen Protege/Escort chassis is competitive with his trophy finish and he wasn't even running an LSD or any power mods. I had the most HP of all the FSP cars there by far, but I was also the heaviest by at least 200lbs. I'm looking forward to building a FSP 1st Gen Protege to compete, but I'm not done with the Pro5 yet. I was the only competing station wagon in Topeka and that's just too funny to give up on yet. I plan on scaring even more people next year.

I finally got around to buying a good race sterring wheel for the Pro5. i went with the Momo Mod 78 330mm. hopefully it will be here by the end of the week.

Do you know how to keep the airbag light from flashing? Besides ignoring it or removing the bulb...

I took the bulb out.

I got to AutoX with the new steering wheel for the first time Saturday. It felt amazing. Much more precise feeling than the larger stock wheel. The quick release hub moves the wheel closer to me by an inch or two. That alone really helped with the control through fast transitions. I'm extremely happy with the 330mm wheel.

I still have the new Hoosiers I ran at Nationals on the car and they are working great. I finished 2nd in overall RAW time Saturday...missing FTD by 2/10ths behind a BSP 350Z. I PAXed 2nd as well, 1/10th behind one of the best driver's I will probably ever know. If you think I have an underdog car...this kid has set fastest PAX at 2 events in a row in a STS 1st Gen Integra. I did a few fun runs in the car and that kid is a god of a driver to get that thing through an AutoX course the way he does.

yeap, the right way is to get the value of the airbag and substitute it with a resistor of the same value. Others have just removed the airbag light.

I only have 1 or 2 more scheduled races this season. Looking forward to next year I only have a few things left to do on the car.

#1. AWR rear lateral arms. I need more rear camber!
#2. 15X8 rims. No sense in pinching 225's on a 7" wide rim.
#3. Adj. Cam gears.
#4. More dyno tuning.
#5. Start drilling holes in all the legal stuff.
